Decal paper?

Does anybody know of a print-your-own-decal film that will smooth out on compound curves?

I use the decal paper from Bel and it's great stuff. I don't use anything over it but clear dope and have not had a problem. Just be careful, the first coat of clear needs to go on fairly dry or it will melt the decal.

The film isn't the key. Use the decal softening/setting solutions the IPMS guys use- Squadron Mail Order is only one source. Be sure you test first on a scrap decal and surface to make sure the inks on the decal and such are compatiable with the solutions. Done correctly, the decals will snuggle down on most any compound curves and look just like they were painted on.

Among these 3 you will find what you need. With the ink Jett if you trim them close to the colors you will need to clear them after you trim.If you trim about 1/16 outside the color you can spray the whole sheet at one time. I use Rustolem spray can clear. When appling over dark colors you need the white back sheet and trim up to the decal color line to hide the white. Spray after trimming.

When using the white paper to print white decals, do oyu experience any coverage problems over dark base colors? Do you have to double up on the white markings? I know this can be a problem with decals.
And as for the 'Ink "jett"', got it.

Dark colors are a problem. Not sure what you can do about it. I plan my paint scheme accordingly. If you are doing scale you are committed. Not sure what to tell you other than paint the area white first.

On the plastic models, we just double up the decals! Solvaset will suck them right down. Also Mr. Mark's Softner from Gunze Sanyo, very "hot" stuff.

I have used the ink-jet decals, but I have trouble on very large ones like on the Legacy. I don't know if you looked close at it, but as the dope shrinks over time, little splits in the color appear in the decal. I used the Krylon clear sealer the decal paper people suggested, then applied the decals and began overcoating them with the clear dope. What am I doing wrong? Smaller ones are no problem.

But watch out for the Walthers ink jet decal media - it doesn't seem to like HP ink. How do I know? Guess. The stuff that worked best for me in my limited experience is made by the Bare Metal Foil Company (yes, that's the real name). I got it at a local hobby shop that's big in plastic models, especially cars.
