Snowed in

Just as Bill Little said yesterday we were in for the big one and we go it. 18-21 inches of snow.I live 20 miles east of Charlotte NC and on a very remote dead end road and I am up at the same height as the TV towers. Here are two pictures I took this morning. I cleaned off 6 inches of snow and there is 15 more on each car,WOW 21 inches of snow in my front yard. Also a picture cleaning a path to my new shop I had built a month ago, it's 10x16 and 12 feet tall lots of storage.I live about 30 miles from the Huntersville field and we had our club meeting set up for tomorrow at the field.It's going to 66 degrees on sunday so I guess it will be like a lake for a few days as it melts. Also I liva 7 miles from the spot were gold was first discovered in North America 1798 and I live on the site of the old Pioneer gold mine. I haven't found any yet but there is a lot of old mine digs still visible.

What some of you might not realize is that we can do a whole decade without getting 21 total inches of snow! LOL!! So it is QUITE different for us to get as much as we have in the last two months.
We are about level with Charlotte, on the map,(and Los Angeles, too) but further east. We had 6-8 inches fo snow, with a blanket of sleet last night. It is already starting to melt here. Heading for 65*, or so, on Sunday. Crazy weather!
Oh, yeah, we are going to fly Sunday. There, got in something about model airplanes! LOL!!

Sure looks nice now you know what we have have had it for the past month We use snowmobils to go ice fishing cant fly in this weather too cold so we build part of the time & go fishing rest of the time

Bill I looked up on the map where you live and we are about 70 miles apart. I am 7 miles from the old Reed gold mine. I am about 25 minutes from Albemarle. My addres is Concord buy I am not near it. I am closer to Midland NC. Lets get together soon to fly.By the way I used to live in Port Crane NY on the edge of the Catskill Mts and we would get a 30 inch snow fall two or three times a year. 32 years in NY,30 years in Florida and retirement in NC. I like it here the best of the three places.

Wow, the view is the same from my house! It's a super heavy wet type snow....that will be gone by Sunday night!!!

Well...... I spoke too soon......
Just back from going over to the HS where I work, about 15 miles from here. Started back snowing and sleeting here about 11:30. Still going on! Roads are getting nasty now, glad I'm home!

Bill I will call you next week .I want to get together and trim out the Juno. Still onlt 14 flights on it. I need a stunt flyer to watch it for me. Also I soon will have a cuctom mufler for my Rustler Nobler and want to do some testing with it.

Well, I would brag about being in sunny Florida. However, we have not seen the sun in 5 days. Rain, rain and then some more rain. It is just past 3:00 PM right now and it is 42 degrees with a wind chill of 35. Not typical Florida in late Feb.

Come on, Mother Nature, get your act together!!

I think I will move south.

You southerners have my sympathy. Up here in Minneapolis WE even take note of that much snow!!! Of course we're not supposed to admit it.
Our club has a New years day flying session with hot cocoa, chili, and drawings every year (no matter what). Had a couple of dozen fly this year. Not to say that we're adaptable up here, but one of our members, Norm Anderson, has an Enya .35 powered FLYING SNOW SHOVEL. It is an actual small aluminum snow shovel with the handle acting as the fuselage, the shovel face at the rear, wings mid point, and a canard type forward control win on the front. Not only shovels and flies but blows the snow dust away after it's done! Might also be useful during summer "Bull" sessions.

No snow, just rain. I have just one full flight on my new plane. OK, I admit it, I just don't like flying in a downpour when it's 45 degrees. A little mist or even a light rain is ok for a flight or two, but I've never acclimated to the drizzle circuit. I'll wait for the sun. Besides, once it's sunny, the wind comes up. Heck, you can't fly without wind!
