Fox 40 on a Brokak Nobler?

Is a re-worked (read made stunt flyable by Lou Woolard) Fox 40 BB too much for a Brodak Nobler. I have a new kit and wanted to put this engine on the plane but at least one person said it was too much engine. Advice Please.

It depends on how heavy your Nobler is. I have two of Lew's reworked foxx's, and they put out a lot of power. More in line with an ST .46.

A good running OS .35S, McCoy .35 or .40 RH, or a Fox .35 would be much better for it.

Save the Silver Foxx for a bigger, heavier plane.

Now, if that's the only engine you have and you just have to put it in the Nobler, go ahead, but you might have to spend a bit of time tweaking it and substituting props to get it tamed.

I am going to give an opposite opinion to John. We put one in one of our two prototype "Das Stunter" planes, and it worked just fine. Recommended. The "Das Stunter" is a thicker airfoil, but at 570 square inches not much larger than the Nobler's 540. We also had one on a Custom Models profile Nobler (on 70 foot lines) and, again, it worked just fine. It all depends on the prop. Just go to longer lines and prop accordingly. (We used a 12 x 5 BY&O by the way). As for weight, with a tongue muffler it weighs a total of about 9.5 ounces, and that is certainly reasonable. If you aren't worried about OT legal, you could shave a half inch off the nose, but otherwise it should work fine.

When you are underpowered you can't do anything about it. But if you are a little overpowered you simply control speed with pitch and enjoy the extra "oomph." (And by the way, when the Nats went to Reno, Gieseke put a Tiger .46 in his previously Fox 35 powered Nobler.)
