Dope color matching

Well, I'm going to be finally starting my summer building project in couple of weeks - my Brodak Nobler. I know this might be a little premature, but oh well. I need to know how to get certain colors in dope, without having to add stuff like RIT dye. I'm intending for it to be an all Brodak finish, so let's try to keep all suggestions relavant to using only Brodak products (i.e. - standard colors).

With all of the above in mind, this is what I want to do for the finish. I want to paint it to match the picture on the box, navy blue with white tips and nose. but here's the kicker - instead of navy blue, I want to use purple, with a golden yellow instead of white. Gonna make it match the colors of my favorite college, LSU (geaux tigers!!).

Only problem with this is that Brodak does have purple, but it's a candy color which an be hard to match if a repair ever has to be made. I've considered simply mixing equal parts red and blue to achieve what I need, but I'm just not too sure if that will do. For the golden yellow, I pretty much have that under control as there are about three or four shades offered that will work quite well.

Speaking a one who used to do color matching in a paint factory, with whas available for the retail buyer, there is ony one way. extreemly close measurement and good records of exactly what component colors you have used, and always mix more than you will use for later touchups.
Most colors you will see (except primary colors)
are mixed using professional color systems comprised of colors tones you have never seen.
Color systems do not use primary colors as a starting point. It takes onths to learn how to use them and one unit of the colors they start with is likely going to be up to 50.00. There are 16 different mixing colors usually in mot systems.
One way would be to take a wet sample of your color to an auto paint shop alone with your base paint and pay to have them match for you.

As Jon mentioned here, Matthew had the same problem with his previous two ships when he wanted to match a desert paint scheme. We tried mixing several of the Brodak colors together. Didn't work. He then went to the auto paint supply and had them make a tint for him that would match. The acrylic lacquer tints will mix with our dopes--have done it with both SIG and Brodak. You have to experiment a little to determine how much, but you add the tint to clear base and it comes out looking (and working) just like "regular" colored dope. Matt showed the plane to John last year and he said "we might have to add that to our paint colors." Maybe you could do the same. Get your tints made up to the colors you want and then petition John to come out with a dope in those colors. Just tell him "Everybody" is wanting to paint their plane in Geaux Tiger colors.

You ARE having fun with those signatures, aren't you? Even though I had already added a signature to my Member Profile prior to my comment below about getting it to print automatically, it still doesn't do so. I tried resubmitting it again so maybe it will work this time.

Go to the Lobby and click on the "User" Icon. Click the "Modify your member profile" option and enter "Submit". This takes you to your User Profile Manager, at the bottom of which is the signature box. You can merely put in here whatever you want and it will print as normal, or you can add html. Then you need to click on "Submit" one more time. (I think that is what is confusing some people.) Just remember, if you use HTML, check the HTML Reference above your posting box since it is a little different than normal. This board runs a pearl script in CGI to create the html that...I don't know what all that means! (Actually, I am learning, but that's the reason it is different.)

What are you putting in your signature box? Maybe I need to ask that question. Just try it first with your name (whatever) only. Nothing fancy. Then when you attempt to post a message it should show up at the top of your message box. You add your message above it and it will remain there when you post.

One thing I found out, if you don't "Login" before you post, it won't show your signature.

Now...Cut that out. I followed Leonard's instructions to a tee. In fact, he emailed me for my password, logged in as me, played with my profile, and HE couldn't get the signature to work either.

It's weird how something will work for one person and not for another, even when there is absolutely no reason whatsoever why it shouldn't, Isn't technology grand, but then again, bumblebee's aren't supposed to be able to fly.

Leonard believes he has discovered the cause of my trials, and has even offered a suggestion for a temporary fix. That fix is a bit more than I'd like to do at this time, however, so I'll wait until he returns from Muncie, when he thinks that he may be able to find another fix that doesn't require the objectionable (to me) change.

It's time to put this one to bed for now. Folks have to be tired of looking at this thread which no longer has anything to do with dope color matching or any control line subject.
