I note that the number of threads per page has now creapt back up to 75. This despits all my previous posts and emails on the subject. If you don't want me to access the forum, just say so.

Aw, c'mon, Dave, I can't satisfy everybody. What is wrong with 75? I cut it down and someone complains that their post got pushed to the second page too quick. And some people won't go to the second page (somne don't even know there is a second page, let alone 80 or 90--well, it depends on how many threads per page). I tried to set a compromise between quick loading and a reasonable number of posts per page. Just realize, we are getting 120 to 150 new posts a day. If you view it only once a day and I shorten it up, some of the new stuff will be in the second page each time you come in.

I view from expanded mode and dial up access (the slowest way there is) and things load fine for me. What's the problem? What system are you using?

Correction: I looked at the latest figures, and in the last 14 days we have averaged 151 posts a day with the highest being 210 on Wednesday of last week. And for the last 30 days we have averaged 158 posts per day. That is average. And that is posts, not viewers. (And viewers is another story.) But that is why I wanted to up the number of threads per page. 75 isn't a lot, considering.

Gonna have to upgrade the ole Commodor64 buddy. 300 bps just don't cut it anymore.

Not to rub it in or anything, but here is a speed test from Kansas City Road Runner http://www.kc.rr.com/computing/speedtest/index.asp

Give that sucker a test and see where your speed is up to. Granted you'll have some bottlenecking from KC to where you are, but my speeds at home are generally at the 2.8 Mbps speed where here at work they are mearly .855 Mbps.

Sure makes pictures come up fast, and 150 titles on a billboard are a non-issue.

I'm seeing 28-31K bit/second over my home phone line, this forum is still quite usable to me, no complaints.

Over the T1 line at work, it fairly pops!

Out of all the myriad issues surrounding web page delivery performance, a couple of thousand users and the real life I suspect Len has going on he's got time to do the math to make sure you get pissed off enough to not participate.

That's an inane view, if you ask me.

I suggest you go out into the garden, have some tea and take a series of deep breaths.

When a perspective broader than the width of your monitor settles in, perhaps you will see things a bit differently.

Then we can have a discussion about whatever is troubling you in a rational context.

I’m sure you’re joking about this right?
If not, you need to understand that a post remains on the first page for as long as it is generating interest and people are replying to it. With every reply, the post goes right up to the top again. It has nothing to do with the amount of posts that Mr. Neumann limits the first page to. By my replying to this one, it will re-appear back on the top of the list.

If the subject happens to be on e that does not generate any replies it will quickly end up falling off the first page. Don’t take it personally.

Unless, of course, there is anything else we can do which will lead to you getting upset, all cranky and whiney.
