Looking for Flying Site and Contest Study Group

I have been modeling for 40+ years and flying RC Pattern competitively for the last 30. I have been dormant for a while and am in the process of becomming active again, this time in CL Stunt. My intentions are to fly competitively. I joined PAMPA in December and am working on getting the shop back in operation so I can get my old (15 yrs +) Magician/Max 35 refurbished and flying. I live in southern California, Palmdale to be specific (approx 70 miles north of LA). There is no CL activity in the Palmdale area and I am looking for a place to fly and someone who is contest savy and willing to help me. The closest LA CL circles that I know of are the ones at Sepulveda Basin. The next closest is Whittier.

Needs Help.

This seems like an ongoing situation for most of us. For now the guy's in the pacific NW have places to fly the wait was wrth it.

There's a few guys up in Ridgecrest, if you ever get up that way. Bill Ledden is one, maybe most active. My brother lives there, knows these guys, and can fly CL, but is too busy flying his 1:1 scale glider. Pretty sad, huh? Steve

Assuming you were able to score some Fancher Handles and have at least one old model to play with and crash, I would strongly suggest checking out the several threads dealing with Pukey Profiles and the O.S. 20FPs.

I hung up/sold off my RC Pattern models a few years ago, and while I make no claim to having done much more than dabble in Pattern, I well understand your background. You will enjoy yourself immensely.

A long-time friend is currently going down the same road, putting Pattern on the back burner and getting back into CL Stunt. He and I have flown together several times recently, he's got a pretty good idea of where he's headed with an Oriental nearly finished and the intent to build an Impact, a favorite PA model in many areas, certainly the NW.

The transition from not flying at all to quickly understanding modern powerplants, their characteristics and how lessons learned may influence future decisions as to equipment can be a challenge.

Thus it is that Rick has seen my ARF Flite Streak with O.S. 20FP combination and ordered an ARF immediately, has even freed up an old 20FP out of his attic.

I suggest the same for you, even if at first thought it must seem like a very odd combination.
