I was looking at the pictures of the Rustler-Merco .40 on the RSM web page. In the picture it appears to be very short length wise and tall. The description say "... fits an FP40 mount...". What are the dimensions of the RM40? It also says "loop scavanged" Is that with a baffeled piston like the old Fox .35s? The picture also shows a side exhaust and a rear exhaust set up. Is this the same engine? i.e. Can the same engine be run either way? as a side exhuast or a rear exhaust? or does it mean you can purchase one or the other? I can see this on a schnerle (sp?), but with a baffeled piston???

EddyR has one of these engines, from what I can tell they run great.
Neat little motor. The muffler is in two parts so you can configure the engine for side muffler or rear muffler. The exhaust port angles back at a 45 degree angle and the manifold is flipped to rotate the outlet to the side or rear. The muffler part is also flipped for either configuration. I have one, broke it in and flew in on an Excalibur. Too heavy for that plane but it sure has a great sound and steady smooth power. It is not a powerhouse hot engine but with proper balance, properly setup system should be an excellent 4-2 powerplant with smooth operating tendencies.
I like the motor and plan to install in in Pat Johnstons P40 what was recently kitted. Should make for a good combination.
