Hi: I've been purchasing NIB engines from a reliable source and have three here that I don't quite know what application would these be best suited. Number one an OS .25 VF abc, number two is an OS .25 F SR, and number three is an OS .28 F H. Could someone identify the proper application for these? Thanks in advance.

A clarification: I buy estate engines frequently from abroad, and sometimes even I don't know what is truly being sold, but take a risk in bidding, based on items being brand new in box. All that is stated, sometimes, is "new model engines, OS etc".

All engines have seemingly factory stock (CL setups), but I have never heard of a stunt ship using any of the designated. I just want to know if I should plunk them in the display case or mount and fly them?

The .25VF will require a venturi, around .250". a ST NVA, a MACS header and a tuned pipe, either a Werwage/Smith or a Nering Carbonmaster.

I think you'll have to enlarge the holw where the screws that held the carb in place to let the ST NVA go through it.

Use an APC 10 X 4 and launch at 10,000 rpm or a 10 X 3 at 12.000.

Start with 17.5" from the plug pin to the first baflle.

You can use it in any .35-40 ship up to 600 sq" and you'll have a darn good powerhouse.

It'll cut better through the bad wind, get some extra "humph" in the climbs and the revs won't go up on dives, when the prop is unloaded.

The FSR will need a venturi and a muffler. you can also pipe it, there are headers made for SE engines.

Mike Starret used piped .25 FSR's before going to the .25VF.

I might be interested in the .25VF if you can't think of anything to do with it.

There are "plain" airplane heads to replace the large square Heli head on the 28, which is a strong engine for its size, but not greatly popular in CL that I know of. The early ones were ringed, in steel cylinders. I've run a couple of them in some large old AMA Slow Combat models to check out their usability for Speed Limit, and they were a little faster than the desired 75 mph where that is the limit.

My son and I are using several OS Max 25 F's, FSR's, and SF's for 80 mph Speed Limit in fullsize AMA Fast Combat Arrowplane type foamies, and they really so well for this. I have a couple of VF 25's and never found a use for them, but I may try one with a pipe, as ION described already.

Thanks Kiwi: I have a relative in Italy, who keeps consant track of engines from estates and hobby-like centers having sales. Some times, as did three years ago, a block of one hundred new, mixed brand Italian made engines: Picco, OPS, Rossi, ST, CMS and others, were actually offered at the US equivalant of $55.00 per Kilo! Not by individual count! The estate auction actually listed them by weight! A quick calculation of the average engine, hence total weight bid, netted me the whole lot. But shipping, was another story, cost almost as much as the sale. Thanks for the info. William
