Here's a small collection of faux jetz. Or things that look jet-like.

Sting Ray Says so right on the wing. Paint scheme gives the impression of a U-2, which lead me to think it might have been a design based on that airplane. Just a good piece of art.

USA-1 Jim Hoffman's airplane. From the autograph on the wing I'm thinking it's a Werewage design.

USA-1 Details Wicked looking front end. There was lots of detail in the paint on this bird.

Patriot Very jet looking, but not a representation of anything that I know of. Bears a strong general resemblance to an F-86.

As always, forum members who know the pertinant details are invited to add them to the thread.

My guess is that the Patriot is a Jerry Phelps aeroplane. The clue is the lead-outs from the wrong wing. I believe that Jerry designed the plane as well as flew it at a World Championships?

As to the planes:

I believe the U-2 is a Frank Warburton (British) design, he did one in about '64, Tony E. has the article on his site. Don't remember Jack doing a U-2. (but he could have! hahaha)

The USA-1 is a Werwage design, one that he based a number of his later designs on including the Junar and Geo Max.

Jerry Phelps had the Patriot at Brodak's last summer (beautiful ship). Rich is correct on it. Either the '70 or '72 WC.

Jack didn't, but J. Adamusko did- it is in the October 1973 Flying Models issue. I suspect this maybe is what this one is taken from- it doesn't conform to the British design very well. There is also a U-2 in American Aircraft Modeler, early '70s- it doesn't follow that one either.

It looks to me more like an adaptation of a Gialdini Sting Ray. Note the lack of wing sheeting, swept forward flap hinge line, raised horizontal stabilizer like the Sting Ray. Looks to me like if you squared off the tips, cut down the rudder, and cut (way) down the canopy, this is what you'd get. I can't tell from the picture if it has trike gear though. Pretty striking in black. I like it.

The black stealth airplane is indeed a Stingray. Getting the flat black to be uniform and stay "flat" must have been some trick.

On closer inspection, the name on the outboard wing even says "Sting Ray".

Jerry won concours and finished third in Classic at VSC two years ago. He's a wonderful flyer.

Yep, Mr. Phelps is a wonderful flyer, he was on a couple FAI teams (at LEAST one ) and he is a really great guy, too!

Does anyone have any pics and/or a plans source for Adamusko's U-2?

I like U-2s and thought about building the Warburton version (still might...), but I'd like to have a bit more "modern" design.
