Another Rustoleum question…............

I buy my Rustoleum from Wal-mart or HD. These two stores carry about the same colors. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, White and Black. I have seen some other nice metallic colors but found out the hard way that they are not fuel proof. This is called there “Classic” colors. Is there other Rustoleum colors I can use other then the “Classic” colors listed above? Anyone know if the “Craft & Hobby Rustoleum will work. I went to the web site but of course they did not list anything about C/L colors.

Maybe I should just buy colored dope and be done with it. I just don’t think I can get a smooth finish with a brush. I know others can, but my eyes and hands are not what they use to be.

Sig used to have spray dope in cans. It wasn't cheap, but it was effective.

I have no idea if it is still made though....

Yea did a search on SSW and found it. That is the other thing. I want to try to keep cost down. I just wanted some other options for colors besides R,G,B.

After reading lots of discussion about the 'stoleum I went to the local HD here in LA and picked out white, gray and medium blue. I saw this combination on a custom pickup truck and it looked really good. One of the few good things about being stuck in traffic on the freeway is looking at potential paint schemes for planes. I hope these colors look as good on an airplane! In the store, I skipped over the metallics and the clear per Bill Little's advice. I also nabbed some primer. I got out the door for about $13. (In LusterKote the tab would have been more like $36!!!)

Seems like you can create a wide variety of looks based on the combination and layout of just the basic colors. My local "Don't Got It" hobby shop only keeps 4 or 5 colors in stock anyway.

And the bad news is that I have to "touch up" the paint on my SuperClown again.... I was trying to get the tank/engine working again after my recent rebuild when the engine quit prematurely while flying inverted. Smoothest landing the 'Clown's made yet! No landing gear bounce at all!!! Of course, the needle valve was bent over, the top of the nose was skinned and the vertical got ground down. Pavement rash. I hope there's enough $9-a-can-LusterKote left to do the repairs....

Dave,
Your LHS must have another store close to my house. The name is a little different then "Don't Got It"... but they stock about the same stuff as yours.
As for Bill Little's advice. What was it?

Our Home Depot (is that what you meant, Dave?) has a pretty wide variety of colors. On the Rustoleum web site, I count 32 colors, although there are a number that are similar or pretty close or flat finish. I have had pretty good luck using R*m for quick finishes.

Our LHS has a lot of stuff, just not much I can use. Ask for an 11.5-4 APC prop and they'll say, Well, how about a 9-8?
