Some guys on Phil Brown's Flightlines forum started posting haikus. These are the little three-line Japanese poems. They are supposed to have five, seven, and five syllables on the three lines. I posted the following, which are based on my actual stunt experiences:

Coach watches pattern.
Is there such thing as finesse?
His only comment

Airplane is pretty,
But finished with auto paint.
How to repair dings?

Engine quits again.
Bomber is mysterious.
Science is no help.

Tailwind on takeoff
Propeller strikes the pavement
Thirty more dollars

Airplane flies OK.
Coach says I am a sissy.
Way too much tip weight

Telephone summons.
Famous flyer wants gear, but
Prepreg has dried up.

Ha! I can relate. Don't confuse "Haiku" with "Haiyaku" which is fast in Japanese. Science is good and so are Bombers used as they are meant. Downwind not so good, maybe unless you like new props. Go men na sai, ne?

Mike, I think that Howard has a special way with Japanese culture idioms. Though I've never met her. He probably knew speed from poetry already.

Hmmm? On further consideration, maybe I should broaden the range to "Asiatic Cultural idioms"?
