Gasket paper

Hi

My taipan 15 has a torn sleave gasket, runs fine with it. Been that way for years and performs very well. Now I have the engine apart a I would like to replace the torn gasket. What can I use to make a new paper gasket. The old one measures .2 mm thick.

A playing card makes a good gasket, but if you are more picky, you can go to an auto parts store and pick up regular auto paper gasket material which works very nicely. ............. TD

My Taipan 3.5 sports a cereal box gasket in that position. I also had a aluminium spacer in there to raise the timing one upon a time...

On my bikes (Honda NSR250s) I sometimes use 200g blotting paper for the cylinder base gasket. Cut out the gasket shape, soak it in dope and let it dry flat to make a sealed fibre paper gasket almost as good as the real thing.
