I may have been lied to/mistaken on the taper grind of the Killer Bee.

I took mine apart as a result of it having gotten dirty, and as far as I can tell, it does NOT have taper grind on the cylinder and piston. Hmmm, wonder how that happened?

I know that taper is what I specified, but may not have checked up adequately on what was actually produced.

They sure run like crazy anyway!!!

To see if you have taper grind, take the piston and cylinder off the engine and see if the piston tends to tighten up as it goes toward the top of the stroke. Ideally, it should get pretty tight just before the top of the piston reaches the gasket land.

Anyway, my Hyper Viper now has a for-sure Tee Dee piston and cylinder, Killer Bee crank and case, drilled-out Sure Start backplate engine.

How much did drilling out the backplate and changing the cyl/piston reduce the run time? What # size drill did you use?

Thanks

If it's broke, fix it.
If it aint broke - let me see it for a minute.

I drilled the venturi to 11/64. That tank is plenty huge, I did a full pattern yesterday with lots o laps left over.

I swear the dang thing makes fuel when its running. Flying when it's too windy to go upwind didn't help much either. I had plenty of lazy eights and loops Saturday. Did we find an answer on the going rich during upright flight problem? Mine runs fine inverted, but will give a Fox Burble when shifting to upright flight. Was that just cutting the tubes to half the level? Winds are gusting to 15 right now which is good cuzz I'd be tempted to take it back to the park today. With a little wind, I'll just stay home and finish the rework on my Mustang. Silly thing got light on the lines Saturday during a hand launch and the line clips got snagged at full up. Nice 7 foot figure 9, (they of course unsnagged at the straight down position).
No damage, but the little stuffer stick I had in the Fox bypass giggled loose and was fully blocking the bypass. The flights I had on the 35 size Mustang were too windy and gusty to be safe, why I flew a 1/2A in that stuff, well, I've done smarter things.

The Viper will fly pretty good I'm bettin, if the wind ever lays down!
