Question for those who have used catalyzed polyurethane pain...

OK, for anyone with experience using catalyzed polyurethane auto paint. What do you use to fill small imperfections in the surface? With dope, I've used model magic or dope and talc. Can you use spot repair putty or glazing compound? I'm just talking about filling small, shallow areas. Any other ideas?

For larger areas I have used an equivalent of Model Magic any epoxy type filler is OK. for things like wood grain I use a poly-u or enamel primer then sand it almost all away (it is heavy).

I would not use Model Magic or the Home Depot equivalent Light Spackling. It eventually creates bubbles under the paint. I have PERSONALLY done this, and have seen it on other ships other than my own finished with Valspar and Chromaclear. Too bad too, because it has no weight to speak of.

It is OK to use REGULAR (heavy) spackling or the Brodak AEROPOXY on small dings. The regular vinyl spackling appears to be inert with any finish. The Brodak stuff sands very nice, I would not be afraid to use it.

Thanks for the responses. I tried using some glazing compound, but the paint doesn't seem to like the solvents in it. I'll try the aeropoxy.

Elmer's "Carpenter's Finishing Wood Filler for Light Wood". Model Magic seems to work OK if you spray some MINWAX Polycrylic over it and then scuff sand it for good adhesion.
