who makes the spinner?

How about some help with the manufacturer of the plastic spinner that "snaps-on" instead of screws on......

I hate spinners in general, and find that I always lose the little screws, so the idea of a snappy one seems good.

Actually I think is was Goldberg, I have DuBro spinners that have 2 screws.

Goldberg makes the snap together spinners. You won't like them. They get all chewed up prying them apart to change props. Put a towel down under your engine before you tear stuff all apart, and you won't have a problem finding the screws. Steve

Aw, c'mon Steve,

I know the Goldberg spinners aren't ProStunt and the Latest Cool Thing...but they work fine for some folks. The ones I have used didn't have balance problems and were durable enough if you handpropped your engine. A small flat screwdriver used with a lever motion (not a twisting motion) never damaged mine! My only complaint is that they were out of stock when I tried to order some more this week....

Are you thinking of the williams bros. push and twist type.
Aparently they don't make them anymore becaused the process did not work well in their new location, too humid. They sold the machine.

However, it appears they have quite a few in stock.

I also don't like the squishy plastic backplate concept. More likely to run out of threads on the crank, depending on engine brand of choice, more likely to kick the prop loose, etc. Attached a pic of the Great Planes aluminum backed nylon spinner. I don't recall the weight, but they're much lighter than anything else under $25. About $6, see Tower Hobbies. Steve

Also found that in order to get these spinners to "snap" on required slamming the spinner onto the spinner backplate, thus slamming the crankshaft into the engine backplate!

I never had to slap the Goldberg spinners. I've used them up to 2 1/2 inches and all I ever had to do was grasp the spinner with my palm and my fingers around the prop blades. A good squeeze and they pop right in.

Those spinners Steve pictured are really nice for the price, I just don't like the shape.

Thanks for the pics Steve. I understand your points regarding the metal backplate being superior in terms of the stiffness and stability (creep resistance) in the bolted prop joint. So far, I've only used the Goldbergs on engines up to .35 cu. in. displacement. That may be influencing my opinion a bit.

As Randy points out, the shapes sometimes aren't very appealing. And I would be the first to admit that I wouldn't buy a car if I thought it was ugly, no matter how reliable, etc.

I do have one additional (shameful, ulterior, ...) motive. I have been avoiding strong metal spinners because I'm hoping the spinner will help avoid engine damage if (when) I hit the pavement. Now you guys have me thinking that drilling the aluminum backplate on one brand to match the Goldberg nose piece would give me the best of both....

Just for what it's worth the Goldberg spinners are no longer available. The Tower spinners are a great value for the money and I like them better then the all aluminum ones that they sell. I haven't seen a williams Bros spinner in 15 years, where do you guys find this old stuff.
I should talk I have some Scamper Spinners in my boxes.

Here's a pic of the Williams Spinner, they are good for profile models like the Ringmaster and .35 engines or smaller. We used to paint them to match the model, by seasons end needed to be repainted. Still liked them way back when (1969-70), Jim J

The Goldberg spinners are still listed in the Sig catalog. Do they keep them in stock or perhaps still have some in stock?

Thanks for the help here, guys....the GOLDBERG site still lists them, and the air breather there said that they were available. Searching because of a protruding prop driver....the Great Planes things look good, as they are a flush fit to the prop driver, same as Randy's super stuff.
