LIGHTWEIGHT SPINNERS?

Folks, I'd like to obtain light spinners for non-cl use (e-powered P51A Mustang) whose scale spinner size causes the normal molded plastic spinners to be extraordinarily heavy. I think the Dave Brown/Tru-Turn spinners are heavy for my purposes as well. Does anyone know of any vendors out there in cottage-industry land, maybe, who might offer something I want? I'm talking about 2 to 2.25 inches in diameter, parabolic shape would be wonderful.

And, honest Injun, I do build and fly Stunt. I got witnesses.

Hi Pete. In looking through the Tower Hobbies 2004 catalog, I can find only spinners for gas engines, aluminum or plastic. However, in the section for free flight electric planes, they have planes with spinners. So, assuming you can get parts for these things, the spinners might be available separately through Tower Hobbies. Some of the models sell in the 12.00 to 20.00 dollar range. Maybe you could obtain one and then use the spinner as a mold and vacuum form your own. Modelers just have to do this , then someone will come out with them commercially. Never fails.

I'm surprised you find the Tru-Turns too heavy.

How about an old Veco? I can supply you NIB 2" or 2.25".

Those GP spinners are a step in the right direction. But I'll be using the spinner on an e-powered aircraft, so the various loads and stresses of a ic motor thumping away are absent. In a perfect world I'd find a c/f spinner and backplate.

I know that hobby shops that sell plastic models sell a plastic sheet that is used to thermal form canopies and other simple shapes with out a vacuform machine. I cant recall the product name at this moment, but when I remember it......Perhaps a suitable sized spinner for your plane used as the "form" would work, you could then use the backplate from the "form" spinner to mount your new light weight spinner to your plane. I was going to try doing this on a P-40 I am building, but I'm not at the spinner stage yet. Just an idea, good luck......
