I saw a "sintered bronze" clunk tank weight that doubles as a fuel filter. Have you ever used one of these? Does bronze react with fuel like brass does?

I don't think it will give trouble, bronze is a copper/tin alloy while brass is copper/zinc. I am pretty well convinced that it is the zinc element of the alloy that causes the trouble with the brass.

The only thing that I know that happens is that the castor oil in the fuel clogs the filter. Once that happens you either throw it away or boil it clean. Dennis
I use one in the bottom of my quart fuel cans to filter the fuel I draw into my syringe to fuel my planes and the only problem I have had is with the brass line that is molded into the bronze filter. It cracks and falls off after a couple of years. I have had no problem with it plugging up and I use 25% castor.

The sintered bronze fuel filter/clunk from Du-Bro is an excellent accessory. As Dennis mentioned, they can get clogged if left in a tank which has some fuel in it, this evaporating leaving castor in the filter.
And BigIron has also identified a small problem, in that they will break at the brass tube after being in use for a couple years.
Also, it has been my experieince that once having done their job in filtering trash from your fuel they become well and nicely clogged. As they can be troublesome to clean, I toss 'em and start with new pieces each year (or so).
