CS 049

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the CS 049?
Got one that I am hoping to use in a Little Legend.
Any info will be appreciated.

Is it a rear exhaust cast early nineties version? They were known to be a little hit and miss in the quality of fit department.

I have one that my son used in speed. It has about five runs on it and turned 31,000 with a 4.5x4 one bladed prop on mini pipe on 65 percent with a bladder fuel tank.

Use an electric started made for 1/2A's because it takes forever to start them by hand. A Cox gray 5x4 and 35% nitro with at least a couple of head gaskets and it'll probably run.

I'd heard they're popular in Speed, have never seen one used in Combat. I'd heard about the hit-and-miss quality control, and that, for use in Speed, you have to do work to it to get it up there. They're also somewhat heavy compared to other .05s.

For sport flying, I'd use a Norvel BigMig .061 instead.

Kinda curious about the CS 2.5cc F2D engine. Adriano Molteni from Italy says they're pretty good (he worked with them to design it).

I have noticed much advice given on these threads about how one should not use the engine, airplane, equipment part,etc. specifically asked about in the originators topic question.

Bill, I have addressed the question as you asked it, and I can say that your response is right on! See if it runs and go on to the next part of your program to use the CS on a 1/2A model. If it works, more power to 'ya. As far as I know they are powerful and run best on pressure, a bladder worked in my experience. They are very pretty with there super slick spinners, I think that alone is worth trying it out, especially on a Little USA-1 or something with some real slick lines. Good luck,

Bill has the CS beginner .049 engine

You have the CS Beginner .049 engine...it should run
fine as a sport engine, It seems to prefer 5" diameter props
over 6" ones ...

Larry Renger sold me one and said it has similar power to a Baby Bee.

Eric got one of the two "good" ones of the 5 that I played with. I had bought one, it would not run - at all! Took that back to CS, they gave me 2. One ran the other didn't. By the time I had 2 that ran, I had played with 5 engines, returning 3.

And then, the performance was nothing special, except that it has a nice muffler, you could just as well run a Cub 049. An Atwood Shriek would blow it away.

Larry, At lest you got to return yours and get some more to try. Most of us that bought them were stuck with them. I became facinated with them as an example of really bad machine work and ended up with more of them then I should have. Dennis
