CA Glue.. strong stuff!

OK, how do you keep from glueing the cap on. I wipe it off but still have to get the channel locks to twist the cap off. The cap is all chewed up.

Don't put the cap back on, I never do. Also, do not tip the full bottle over and leave it lay on its side overnight. Experience talking here.

If you do not put the cap on how do you keep it from drying out?

CyA doesn't dry, it cures; it forms a molecular bond between two surfaces in close contact, a high PH factor helps.

When you have a glommed up CA cap, unscrew the entire cap and soak it in acetone until clean again. I generally leave it overnight. BTW, put some tape over the open bottle top and put it where it can't tip over !!! Guess how I learned that lesson?

While I'm working I keep the lid off and keep a T pin in it.

I've had pretty good success by spraying WD-40 on a paper towel and wiping
the nozzle after each and every usage. Cap comes off
cleanly everytime. If you have some dryed glue on the nozzle, scrape it off (clean out the cap gunk too)
with a razor knife and put the WD-40 on.

What works well for me is not using a bottle as a CA dispenser at all. I just bought a big bottle of thin CA, keep it in the freezer, and withdraw what I need into a BLOOD PIPETTE for dispensing. You can buy the blood pipettes from a couple of sources, I still have a supply I got from Iskandar Taib many years ago (remember, Lubbock Nats?!).

Cheaper, better. (IMO).

It's a bubble with a very thin tube.

You suck in the amount you wanna use and close the jar again.

Yep, that's what they are. Iskandar had the original packaging, I think I got at least 100 of them.

Check a medical supply house, for a better price than the hobby shop has.. You might have to buy 500 of them, however.

If you have not tried it, get some of the "capillary tubing" from your LHS. Use about 2 in. of this tubing inserted into the CA nozzle. It doesn't plug up, and you can really do some precise gluing with it.

Anyone who's not doing this(using teflon tubing)is wasting a LOT of CA and is building heavy airplanes!There are two sizes(maybe more)of the teflon tubing,one for thin CA and a larger size for medium.I'd recommend 1" rather than two,it allows a little more accuracy in application.If the tubing gets blocked simply cut it off behind the blockage and get on with it!Do not EVER,whether you use the teflon or not,put any kind of "stopper"in the opening.You'll introduce contaminants,that's what makes the CA "kick",and why it goes bad in the bottle.Also,be very careful to avoid touching the opening of the tip with your hand,a cloth,a paper towel,the airplane,or anything else that can introduce a contaminant.

With the little serology pipettes (the ones I sold Larry, which incidentally, are the same things Dave Brown sells) is that you can stretch the stems, which draws them out into a little, fine capillary. You then snip it in the middle of the stretched portion, and you have a very fine nozzle on your dispenser. This works best for thin CA.

My latest method of using CA involves micropipette tips. If I have a big bottle of CA, I put it into a plastic bulb pipette (like the ones I sold Larry a while ago but bigger, with a bigger nozzle end) and then I jam the pipette tip onto the end of it. Keep the bulbs upright. If I have small bottles of CA, I just put the tip onto the bottle's nozzle. The tips don't seem to clog easily, if they do just soak them in acetone.

The nice thing about the pipette tips is that they're really cheap. The year before I left the US, I bought a bunch on e-bay, then I started selling them off in smaller quantities, also on e-bay. They come in various sizes.

Something I've been forced to do, since the humidity here is so high, is keep my CA (the bottle I'm currently using, long term storage is in the fridge) in a tupperware container with a "Thirsty Hippo", which is a dehumidifier containing calcium chloride. That way, the bottle doesn't go bad a week after I open it. My polyurethane glue goes into the same tupperware.
