Fox .59 short shaft (airplane choice)

I have one that has been overhauled to new. I have to confess I haven't really been able to come up with an appropriate design to install it in that I like. Any suggestions; OTS, Classic era?
I was thinking maybe Don Yearout's "Biceps" as the original used this motor- but a bipe! Twice as many wings to cut ribs for!

Viking would be my first choice, Humongous (if kept light), for OTS, For flapped newer ship, hard to beat Scarinzi's Blue Angel.

If you are looking for a kit, you might ask the guys flying the JD Falcons, how do they think the 59 would size up? Just think of the Fox59 on par with a ST46 for power.

I think that translates to any ship in the 610 to 675 square inch range, if kept light. A Shark 45 might be tempting, but there is a lot of wood in them, and harder to keep light.

A good Fox 59 will swing a 12x5 BY&O just fine. It's not a high RPM engine, likes big wood and will 2-4 like an overgrown Fox35. Finding a muffler is the fun part. I strap an old mid size Tatone Peace Pipe on mine. A little restriction and muffler pressure is a GOOD thing with these.

Thanks. Initial runs gave 9750 RPM on a 12X6 APC prop and 5% nitro fuel.
I may have to get someone to cut me a Biceps kit...

Eric is correct about the Viking.He has my first one and it will fly in the worst weather and not wind up in the wing.The perfect prop is the 12/5 as Eric says. But finding a muffler is hard. Run it open exhaust and raise the dead.

I keep hearing about how loud these engines are without a muffler. I just may have to put my 59 on a test stand and fire it up to see if what I hear is true. I'm used to running & hearing muffled engines. Last year I heard a couple of Fox 35s without mufflers run and they were most annoying compared to their mufflered counterparts.On a scale of 1-10 how annoying is a 59 compared to a 59 without mufflers?

The short-shaft Fox 59 is very loud without a muffler. Another very loud motor is the Arden 19.

The Orwick .64 and the Atwoods also fit into the VERY loud catagory.

My Super Cyke makes my Fox 59 sound like it is running with a muffler.

Arden .19's loud? Hmmm...I fly a couple ball bearing versions of these on ignion free-flight & I don't find them loud. Might be because there are usually a bunch of larger un-muffled engines around when I fly or maybe with a glow plug and Hot Fuel they sound different? Andy

If you run it on a stand, make sure you have some hearing protection with you. Otherwise you won't hear much afterwards.

The Fox 59 short shaft is loud. Not as loud as some old ignition engines running on white gas and oil, but still very loud. Some would say its relative. I will bet those that do have a relatively high incidence of hearing loss.

You aint heerd nothin (nor will you ever hear again) til you've heerd Zambelli's unmuffeled O.K. Super.60 with the spark advanced too much on gasoline in his Viking.(Come to Brodaks)But on the subject, my Fox .59 with a Big Art tongue muffler and a .265 venturi insert is the epitome of "Tractor Stunt" in my Super Duper Zilch with a 12-6 BY&O. The B.A. Muff. Knocks just enough bark off to make a real kool sound and with the muff.holes pointed up, she puffs around the circle like a Baldwin 4-8-4 .----
