C/L Car for training Kids to fly.

Last year while I was trying to find a day with calm winds to teach my grand son T.J Green to fly I remembered what I made when I was 10 years old. (1951). A C/L car.
Pictured below is his car that has allowed him and his cousin my other grand son, Jordan Williams to get the feel of the noise, turning around to control the car and the feel of the handle. As you can see there are 2 eye bolts attached to the side of the car where you attach the "up" and "down" lines. "up" line goes to the front eye bold and the "down" line goes to the rear eye bolt. It is made from a 2x4 hardwood block , having 2 axles and 4 wheels attached. You can use any cox .049 and just have fun.
This makes it possible to get over all you have to remember, noise, turning and using the handle to control the car, etc.
By pulling the down line you slow the car to a stand still if you want and slowly pulling the up line the car starts to move forward, you can control the speed by the amount of "up" you put in. Simple but very effective.

Are you having any trouble with your car flipping over if it hits a very tiny bump like a BB size rock, stick, crack in the cement?

I built a car like yours when I was about 13 years old, it didn't look as nice as yours. I could never get more than 3 laps before it hit a microscopic bump and flipped out of control and broke the propeller.

We did have some problems but we swept the "new" concrete and I can make it rip for a full tank. Both T J AND JORDAN can get a full tank too. You must be carefull to not slow it to fast, that is what causes the car to flip.

You guys like-- read my mind!! Back when i was about 8 or 9 years young, I tore the 049 outa my PT-19 quit-zone, and ripped the muffler of it, and took some old building blocks and hammerd some perfect ballon tires on and just ran it helter-skelter, no strings atached on the street. I even used nails to mount the motor. All my friends thought i was a genius---But we know better!! Thanks for the memories. Paul-

Amen to the memories! I built, at the ripe old age of 12, a snow sled with a babe bee. Looked like a surf board with a free flight pylon type engine mount. Unfortunately, the snow melted before the Ambroid and wood glue dried and we had a chance to run it........
