My first built Brodac kit and I couldn't ask for anything nicer. The wood was quality easy instructions to follow, and turned out 42 oz.final weight. I don't think that's to heavy for a ST 46 powered 56 inch wingspan airplane. The engine is stock and can't imagine how modifing it would improve it. I've got a Rev-Up 12-5 on it now and a tongue muffler and a GRW uniflow tank and it runs a fat 4 cycle about 9700 and a peak about 12000. I did not like the color scheme of the original Lagg so I decided to do someting different. Chrome Monokote on top and Metallic Blue Monokote on the bottom. I'm hoping to test fly it this weekend and the maiden flite will be on 60 foot lines and work out from there.

Looks good.
Good luck on the test flight, we are just heading out to the field to test our Brodak Baby Flit Streak.

Wow CR, looks great. It's nice to see someone else using MonoKote.

Wow, 60 sq in's more than my Brodak Mustang that I'm flying with a Fox 35 and you have a ST46 on it? MO POWA!!!!!

Good looking plane, have fun.

Yeah, the problem with chrome film is that it gets hard to work on the plane on a sunny day. I covered a Combat wing with some of that chrome mylar you find in gift shops and decided I'd never do it again. Just filling the bladder hurt my eyes.

If you scuff chrome MonoKote with fine Scotchbrite, does it make it look like unfinished (unpolished) aluminum?

Very nice plane! None of mine are nice enough for the wife to allow
me to keep them on the coffee table in the living room, though...

Very nice job. I have the LaGG kit myself but haven't had a chance to start it yet. When I do it will get a Thunder Tiger .42 with tube muffler and a Finnish AF paint scheme.
Neat color choice on your's and looks good. The Soviets used aluminum dope sometimes as snow camo on some of their aircraft, but it wasn't that shiny! The full size LaGG was all wood construction interestingly enough.

Just for reference. My ST 46 powered profile is 56 in. wingspan also and flys on 64 ft lines.

That Lagg looks fantastic. Chrome and a few of the pearl colors are about the only colors of Monokote I haven't tried throught the years. I built a Sig Mustang stunter a couple of summers ago and was really tempted to try chrome but ended up using alluminum instead. Shortly after I finished the airplane I was working in the yard and heard the most awsome roar I had ever heard. I looked up and a P-51 was flying over the house making a approach to the Muncie Airport. I couldn't believe my eyes. I jumped in the car and drove to the airport and watched as the Mustang taxied up and parked near a line of small privately owned aircraft. That Mustang was so cool. The finish was so hignly polished that it looked like chrome spinner, prop and all. The only other color on the airplane was the stars and bars markings and a little red color on the tips of the wings, stab and rudder. I really considered going home and ripping the covering off of my Mustang Stunter and refinishing in chrome but then the reality of all of the work I had already put into the finish set in and I decided to leave well enough alone.

My Lagg of a couple of years ago came in at 44 oz with Sig Coverall, Rustoleum winter camo scheme, and OS FP 40.
The more or less stock FP 40 was just right power wise with an 11-4 APC, 63 ft lines, though the OS muffler was used to avoid tail heaviness. Lots of trimming eventually produced a nice flyer though it would have been better if lighter.
The winter camo looked pretty sharp with white and gray camo top surfaces, light blue bottom, some yellow and red trim. I may be able to find and post a photo later.

Turns out that the Lagg uses the same rib pattern as the other Brodak warbirds but rib spacing is increased to provide an overall span of 54" or so as compared to the usual 48". I have just completed a scratch P51D using the same rib set from Brodak, 55" span with inboard tip 1" longer etc. Weight is still 44-45 oz with $kote and rustoleum, a SSW OS 35FP, 12-5 Rev up, but early flights indicate it is going to be a really great flying profile. Again, pics will follow when done.
