Self inflicted injuries.....

Ok so I guess I am not the only one to have a few cuts/scrapes bruises for being careless when building......just thought I'd share the latest....

After "tack" glueing two pieces of ply together for shapeing, I needed to split them so attacked them with a number 11 blade in the knife......no joy, so I cut TOWARDS myself ( I know, you should never do that ) anyway, the ply split, the blade slipped and stuck directly in my chest.....ALL the way in ...OOOUCH.......after stemming the blood flow, I applied some thin CA to the cut....Great, it stopped bleeding and was stuck shut......cool I thought...and continued building.

Later after having a shower, the glue parted so after drying off, applied more glue BUT had the bright idea of spraying some kicker to activate it.....DUMB IDEA number 2.......as I dropped some thin CA into the cut, I sprayed some kicker, the CA ran down my front, the kicker hit it, and activated the CA, HEAT...OOUUCH....now I have glued up cut, and a burn mark to boot....... dumb moves in one day....I gave up after that.

Anyone else got something to share?????

Coming from a guy that does not know which side of the blade to use. I would never admit to this crew what you did...NEVER! I'll bet about the time you pushed the button down on the kicker bottle you had a fleeting thought that "this wasn't a good idea", but it was to late. As far as the knife in the chest goes...is that all you did? Heck I thought you had done something different than the rest of us.

It would be boring to tell all my knife stories.

I'll just say that one of the reasons I imposed a strict code of security on my shop was the funny way the doctors were looking at me the last time I showed up to be sewed up.

I became convinced that unless I spent a long, long time without showing my face there they would fix me up and lock me at the psychiatric ward...

Conclusion: I started playing it safe not for fear of getting hurt, but of being locked up!

Incidentally - I came across an article a few years ago about how CyA is used in place of sutures for wounds. They do NOT put the CyA INTO the wound. What they do is hold the wound shut, and then spread a layer of CyA on the skin. The CyA forms a layer on top of the skin to hold the wound closed. Putting the glue into the wound forms a layer inside that holds the tissues apart, delaying or preventing healing.

This trick is used where skin doesn't grow very fast. It isn't of much use on the inside of the hand, for instance, because the skin grows quickly and layer slough off. The article I read was about the development of a certified CyA specifically for medical use.

Sorry guy, I am laughing so hard my eyes are watering. When I was growing up (1970) my brother did something to annoy me and I decided to punch on him a little. I jumped on his back to tackle him, a sudden sharp pain in my left leg about 2" from my groin made me get off of him. You guessed it, #11 xacto. Seven stitches, I also was slated to go to the state championships in swimming and had to miss them because of this wound. Recently my brother emailed me and thanked me for letting him hang out with us "modelers". He was actually a great cl flyer and we had some great times together. Jim JOhnson
