I was looking through the Musciano Event designs and noticed the "Sea Dart" was not listed. Does anyone know if this design was indeed the "log" type and if so where can the plan be had? See ad photos from Model Airplane News -- January,1956. THANKS!

Also, does anyone know if Dick Wolsey is on this forum , if so his handle ...... or does anyone at least know his email address? Back in the good old days before computers and eBay, when modelers swapped plans freely (instead of trying to $$make$$ 10 or 20 bucks per plan) Dick sent me a "mother-load" of the Musciano plans for FREE ...... THANKS Dick Wolsey!! I have a few original Scientific Canopys and Decal Sheets to trade for this "Sea Dart" plan, also looking for the recently discussed "P-38 Lightning" plan.

See photo of Feb. 1956 MAN ad ..... upon looking closer, it appears this model was NOT indended to fly, but more of a free running or tether line water-type speed craft on water-skis? I thought that wing looked mighty small to be actually flying one of the balsa "logs"!. Did anyone ever build one .... obviously it did not stay on the market very long?

It ain't an airplane, it's a boat. Walt designed all of Scientific's boat kit line too, including this one.
This kit is quite rare today- along with a few others of that brand name and a pristine sample will bring a good price.

Jim Dodson and I put together the list. Presently, there are 71 (I think) eligible models. They must have a solid wing (except for the Bel Air, which has a hollow clamshell design), and a hollow log fuselage design.

After we did the original list from Walt's and our research, we noted that somehow the Cessna 182 Tricycle was left off. I think it is on the list now. Also, we left off the P-38 (the "lost" kit that I recently "discovered"), but the jury is out on this one. The booms are only profiles, but the pilot's area is 3-D.

One kit that I lobbied for but was overruled was the larger Spirit of St Louis. This one has a "large" 26" span, but others thought that, since this one was intended for larger motors (the Musciano Meet is all 1/2A) it should not be allowed. My argument is that a Fox .049, a legal Musciano Meet engine, will handle this model no problem, so allow it.

We do allow offbeat models, such as the Kellet Autogiro, the Twin Mustang, Piper Sea Scout (takeoff from wet grass), and the Guided Missile (which really is more airplane than missile).

Fun event.

Injun: I do have the plans for the P-38, plus about 600 decals for about two dozen Scientific kits.

Let's work up a trade. What decals do you have? And I could use some original canopies. Currell

Currell,
I have a limited few of the 3 inch canopys, and only enough of the 4 inch canopys for my own use. That being said I have already had a pending offer for the P-38 plan so I feel obligated to sort this offer out first, I am sure you understand? Perhaps we could trade for something else, or at a later date? Do you have a list of the decals you might trade?

Where did you get your decals ..... I bought mine from Ted Crouss (from Mass.) about 10-15 years ago. He was selling mint NIB (still in shrink wrap) Scientific kits for only 10 bucks each, he sold the decals for a buck a bag, and the canopies 50 at a crack! Like a dummy, I only bought a limited few kits, but did buy at least 3 of the "Little Bipe" ones because I liked that model in particular. I only bought 2 bags of decals and only one bag of the canopies, #####-it! I don't know where all the 50 canopies have gone to, I think I might have shared them with Dick Wolsey and others? I still have most of the decals though.
I will soon be taking inventory of the plans and decals I have available if you are interested, but you probably already have all these? See photo of the two types of canopies I have .... please remember though, the 4 inch size is extremely short supply, but I do have a few 3 inch to spare. I think the Sig Military type could be a close copy of the 4 inch type perhaps?
If any of you guys attended past Musciano Memorial contests and saw Curtis Mattikow's Babe Bee engines, I am the one who anodized them.
Thanks guys!

Hey Currel what about the Super Stunt Master I rebuilt? It is a hollowed log but with a build up wing. No go for the Musciano event? I like the way if flies with a Fox 049. I have a few others that I should build some day.

Jay: You can't use it in the Musciano Meet competition, where Concours, Speed, Stunt and Team Racing points are totalled. It has a built up wing.

However, you most certainly can use it in the Musciano Unlimited portion of the contest, which is separate. The model can be any size, as long as Walt designed it. The Unlimited has a concours phase, which Walt judges, and a flying part. Lst year, we had everything from '40s style Stuntmasters to Wellesley bombers scratch built to 1/2A jobs.

Injun: The only canopies I am interested in are the 1" ones. I got my decals from Bob Eierman, who sells motors, mainly. I would like to know what you have, because you probably have some that I don't.

Currell,
What exactly is the 1 (one) inch canopy, what models did it go on ..... do you have a photo of the one inch canopy? I am interested in your decals also ..... I have 29 different Scientific decal sheets, most I have about three to six copies each, but some only ONE or TWO copies. The question becomes which of us is willing to post a list first, then the other can tell what he has that is not on the other's list? It is a bit of effort to sort all the decals out, then type a list ...... I'll flip you to see who goes first? <grin>
Seriously though, perhaps later on tonight I will type up a list of my decals and send to you off this forum line, to your home email address?
