Chipmunk 54" wing span?

Super Chipmunk 52" wing span?

SIG Super Chipmunk 53 1/2" wing span?

Old Super Chipmunk KIT 52" wing span?

When something is called SUPER its usually bigger and better. Why is the Super Chipmunk smaller than the Chipmunk?

Which one is the best?

No, the "Super" label is drawn from the full-size Super Chipmunk that is the re-engined and upgraded version of the original DHC-1.
Interestingly enough, the original DHC-1 prototype was first flown with a flat four engine- it was designed to be easily converted to either that or the Gypsy Major.

Gary,

The Jim Van Loo/Mike Stott/SIG Chipmunks/Super Chipmunks are merely evolutionary stages. For further information, see:

Since Jake has already answered your main question, perhaps the information at the site above will further clarify the matter for you.

Gary,
I am in the midst of building two. One is Walter Umland's foam wing original Van Loo type, and one is a Sig Super Chipmunk kit. They are both good, and different.
I plan on using 40's in them. This keeps the weight down and line sizes smaller. If you plan on building one you can e-mail me for help.
