Light weight muffler for ARF Nobler

Hello, I have an OS 40 FP mounted in my ARF Nobler and plan to fly it with a tongue muffler, the problem is that the tongue muffler will not help to keep oil off of the plane. Can anyone recommend some sort of light weight muffler or pipe that would keep the oil off the plane and also not add a bunch of nose weight? Thanks for your help, Dave Markley

I've got one of Leonard's tongue mufflers on my ARF and I think it does as good a job of keeping the oil off the airplane as a tube muffler would. The holes are pointed down and are far enough outboard of the cowl that very little of the oil gets on the fuselage. I've got a Fox in mine, so the wing does get a castor coating. To keep most of the oil out of the cowling, I did have to add a gasket between the engine and muffler. If you still want a light tube muffler, Leonard has some from Big Art which are pretty light. I believe the RO-Jett muffler will also fit your engine and is very light.

In answer to the question, we have run both tube mufflers and tongue mufflers in the same plane (inverted engine, standard, inboard muffler) and the tongue muffler with its diffusing of the exhaust always did a better job of dispersing the oil and leaving less of a mess on the airplane than the tube muffler. The only other choice would be to put an exhaust deflector on a tube muffler which both adds weight and chokes off way too much power.
