ANOTHER PROFILE L/G MOUNT

I received a couple of e-mails asking how I mounted my landing gear in my profile. So here is a couple of pictures. Cut a pocket either before or after you glue doublers on roughly centered on the leading edge or wherever your plans show the landing gear to be. Make a hardwood block to fit pocket with tee nuts, this one is 1/2 wide x 1/4 thk. x 2 1/2 lg. Epoxy in place, remember to put a small piece of masking tape over the back side of each of the tee nuts (flange side) to keep epoxy out of threads. I usually make a couple of different landing gears out of cardboard till I find the one I like. Hardwood is located in an area where it lends stiffness to the front. I guess the bad part in the two mounts shown below you have to make your own landing gear either wire or aluminum but the good part is their both really clean without screws and nuts sticking out as their hidden on the bottom. I have seen some where a small plywood plate is epoxyed on top of the hardwood block to provide a little larger surface for the aluminum gear to mount against. How do you do it??

Here ya go Paul,

I use a very similar method. 3/8x3/4 in. motor mount stock(3/4 in wide fuselage). No need for blind nuts. I just use #6x3/4 in. sheet metal screws.

Looks to be adjustable to some extent. I guess you could build in more adjustment if you wanted. I like the design, Didn't you do the same on your tail wheel also in a previous post. Looks good!! Thanks

if you glue in a couple small tabs of liteply in the tail to make a 1/4 in. thick pad you can easily mount a tail skid or small wheel using just 1 socket head servo mounting screw.

this kind of profile gear mount should be standard for the FP20 tuned muffler crowd. Fits right in with the simple, easy, available theme.

I think your example is one of the best I've seen. When I copy it I think I will use one size down in piano wire and use washers under the screws just to have a warm fuzzy.
