Hi Brad,
The Veco 35 is a great, overlooked, Classic Stunt engine!
But...... for a Super Clown, it will be a hand full.
I use a McCoy RH 29, and would not be scared to go to a smaller engine. I am planning to go to a 4 or 4 1/2 pitch prop on mine next time out. 4.5 to 4.7 on a 9-5 and 60 ft eye to eye in a great 4-2 break. A *little* too quick for an Old Timer like me.
A .20 to .25 FP or even an older Max in that size would work well.
The Super Clown is a fairly small airplane only 38", and not much fuselage!
Could have easily used one of my Veco 19 BB in it.
Good luck, they are a fun plane!

Bear in mind that there is a .35 C which is a Combat motor and won't be happy in the Stunt realm- be sure which one you have first. I have seen standard .35s with pressure taps and all sorts of mods, so sometimes it is hard to tell what is what. As I recall (could be mistaken), a factory "C" will have that letter stamped on the crank, similar to a GH Torp .35 Combat.

Hi Jake,
I was 14 when I bought a brand new "Combat Veco 35"..I remember distinctly ordering the combat version as it was $2 more and came with a pressure fitting on the back top left-hand bolt that holds the backplate on.I never used the pressure fitting. I blocked it off.
The engine was much more powerful than the Johnsons and Enyas and Foxes. It hauled my WAY-too-heavy stunt ships with ease.
Then when I got into Combat in the 70s with ST G21 35s with baby pacifier tanks, I decided to run the Veco "Combat" on a Voodoo. Big mistake. First flight the Crank broke.(the part opposite the couterweight that attaches to the con rod) Nobody seemed willing to fix it so I still have it. There is no mark on it. No "C"...nothing!
It is not a regular 35 shaft because when I tried to replace it with one of those, it didn't fit. I forget now but I think the crank was larger in some area.
Still fondly remember the sound and power of this engine.

Yeah, they are different in some areas- it has been so long since I have seen one I no longer recalled exactly what was different. These were BB motors too, whereas the older GH Torp was a PB one. They saw some use in Rat and class C Free Flight as well.
Hope you can find a replacement crank someday. Have you checked with guys like Bob Oge, Don Blackburn, Gene Hempel, etc.?

Hi Jake,
I haven't checked with those guys but thanks.
The engine is not a ball-bearing one. This was in 1958ish. I don't recall seeing ball-bearing engines for sale then...at least not in the common names like Fox,Johnson,Veco,McCoy. I could be wrong.

Yeah, you have the earlier PB then, the BB jobs didn't come on the scene until the early '60s. It's still a neat motor, hope you can find a crank for it.
I still have a Veco .31 Stunt.
