More Sig Magnum

I have read with interest the previous Magnum post. I too have had a Magnum that weighed slightly less than my wife's Toyota. Not the kits fault mind you; it was entirely my own niave building skills. But that said, I will also say that the plane also flew remarkably well for all its (builders) faults. I have often thought of building another of these fine planes, but going with a built-up wing instead. Maybe even something along the lines of a Detroiter wing system. I mean there is no end of "cool" about the Magnum. It has the looks of a racer, moments of a stunter and has the looks-right-flies-right attitude, happening. Has anyone out there built one with a built-up wing? If so, how about sharing some data. I was thinking of buying the foam core and cutting it up for the wing rib templates. Is this a good idea, or not? Any help is appreciated.

Tom Dixon offers a revved up Magnum. Wing cores that are lighter, and some of his suggested improvements.........
Probably a good place to start if you were of a mind to build one.

Tom lists it as the "Super Magnum"....

Dixon sells plans for a plane called Magnum Plus thatr is a colaboration of Dixon/Smith. It looks like the Magnum at first glance but it has built up wing and several improvements to the original design,so no parts are actually interchangeable. For example it has a thicker airfoil, is built with no separate cowl and uses fuse mounted gear. It is extremely easy to build and can be adapted to the lincoln log method very easily. I have built four of them and I have two of them alive as we speak. Somewhat modified in most cases , but I believe that they fly very well indeed. I have used S.T. 51 and Double star 60 and Stalker 61. I reccomend getting the plan then deciding. Also ask Dirty Dan his experience with the design.
