HI All
Some people have express an interest to see the internal parts of the new design PA ultra lite 40 , it is a small\lite engine at 8.2 ounces,
picture below

Randy, how did you manage to get an engine with ball bearings to wheigh only 8.2 ounces???

It must be AAC, but still that's pretty darn light, considering a Fox .35 wheighs 7 oz...

Is it the crankcase alloy?

Ion

PS. I also noticed the header is somewhat restricted at the end, is it some kind of muffler?

The Nelson .36 Combat engine doesn't weight much more than that, less than a Fox CS Mark VI despite more power output. Part of the trick is a thin rear bearing.

HI Ion
It was very carefully designed to be as lite as can be made but still keep power and keep the engine thermally stable.

It is as you can see an AAC engine, Yes the engine is alloy , all PA engines are over 90% barstock except for the one piece that we do NOT want barstock ,
that would be the crankscase, IT is A very strong ONE piece design and INVESTMENT cast, It is much stronger than a multi piece machined barstock case of the same weight and is more stable, and does not have to be "seasoned". It is no problem for Me to make barstock cases , as Henry can machine all I want,
and I have made them before in my shop. In my experince the investment cast case just work much better for me.

""">PS. I also noticed the header is somewhat restricted at the

This is a muffler made for a rear EX engine the turret you see coming out of the back is part of the tail piece, It is about the same noise as a good tube muffler. I am also working on other rear mufflers and have 3 types already in stock.

A little pipe engine huh? How much dough for this one?

Bigs

HI

NO its not just a little pipe engine, It uses a header muffler, or a can muffler, for Smaller Classic type planes. Ares , Chipmonk, Nobler etc. It is also very good with a small modern size plane like a VECTOR, and it is strong enough to run with a pipe for Large Modern ships.
I make every engine here personally, as I have always done. Henry makes parts for me.
More information will be on my web site very soon, as I am shipping now, Or you can reach me at [email protected]

Hi: A couple of questions "please". One cannot just supply a picture of a beautiful work like this without questions: who makes this, I'm unfamiliar with PA? Where to order? Bucks? Looks like a Jett?

Thanks, Always Learning William

I wonder what ship would be "perfect" for this engine with the header Randy has shown?

Vector...maybe.

PA stands for Precision Aerobatics, I think.

They are engines made by Henry Nelson, a master engine maker. Randy Smith is the "intelectual mentor", and together they have produced the finest stunt engines money can buy.

Yes, it looks like a Jett engine. Or better, Jett engines look like PA engines.

About the price I figure it'll be above 300 bucks, and it'll be worth every penny.

I wish I had the $$ to buy me one.

This should help you out William with figuring out what a PA engine is and who Randy is. http://www.aeroproduct.net/ Dennis

Wow! Dennis, thanks for the reply. H. Nelson is one of the biggies in engine design. I did go to the site, and was I impressed! Not unlike seeing the engine rooms on an aircraft carrier for the first time at tender fresh out of boot camp age of 17! Now, how to dump some of the engines in my stores and order one of these?

Ion, 2 things. I introduced my light weight 40 2 years ago(8.2 ounces) and my engines are bar stock. I also have a side exhaust. My engines are Ro-Jett.
I do however want to congratulate Randy for bringing in a very nice engine that will only help the Stunt community. I will assume that this engine will be the normal great quality that the PA engines are known for. The classic planes are great with these small package motors and are a pleasure to fly with all of the extra power. I expect we will see numerous examples of this motor at VSC next year!

Both Randy Smith and Richard Oliver were finalists in stunt at last year's Nats. They know what they are doing.

Come on, Richard, are you jealous??

Forgive me If I said that "RO-Jetts look like PA engines", I had no intention off puttin' down your stuff.

I never had either a PA off a Jo-Jett, but I see the best stunt pilots are using both brands.

Bob Hunt, for instance, is using a .40 Ro-Jett on his new Genesis. When I read it's wheight I was surprised. Now I know that your lite Ro-Jett must be one of the explanations.

And you know how Bob is picky about engines.

But Richard, today is Randy's day. He's all happy about the light PA.

PLUS, what difference does it make if his engine looks like yours or if your engine looks like his?

Just one sugestion: On the Ro-Jett site

http://www.us-aero.com/cgi-local/Enter.pl.cgi

you should put the stats for them engines. If you didn't tell me I;d never know your .40 was also 8.2oz. light.

BTW, that jig for making the holes is pretty neat!

Maybe someboduy could make them for all the popular engines.

Wow. What a lovely little critter!

I assume we'll see .51, .61, and .65 versions of this lightweight engine as well, eventually, Randy?

Great work!

HI Larry
No not too likley, The largest this case would go is about maybe a 46 or 50 max. It's really is a small engine, Although it is putting out serious H.P.
I guess I should have taken a pic of it with some other engine to compare with.
I may make some 35s or 36s for twin applications though.
The PA 65 at 11.2 ounces is already a lite weight

The mufflers some of you have been asking about are shown in the picture, we have been using all of these for quite some time now.
1-The Carbon muffler, ultra lite slides onto any 3\4 in header
2-The alum. Expansion cahmber muffler, slides and seals on any 3\4 in header
3-the Header muffler, they can be made in various rises and lenghts to fit whatever plane. You can use a silicone exhaust deflector on the end of the header muffler to vent the exhaust out of the bottom of your cowling
4- not shown is the can muffler, CNC box that bolts onto the back of the engine, it has an exhaust that just dumps straight down thru the cowling. I will take a picture of it soon

and yes of course it will take pipes

Well, while all of you guys talked about it I sent him an email order. I can always sell Shareen's car to make up the bucks.

Hmmmm, come to think of it, selling her car could pay other balsa related dividends! I could buy two of the new .40s and a couple pairs of walking shoes for Mama and......

Hi Henri

The parts are all in stock here in MY shop, I am building motors and have sent out quite a few, I still have about 25 orders to go to get caught up on the presales, I would estimate it will be about 10 days to 2 weeks before I will have those out the door,

Ah hummm,

Instead of selling Shareen's car, maybe a nice green car like a Toyota Pirus of something on that order that has a short nose that
I think that Shareen could actually see over. The benefit there would be a big savings on the California Gas bill!!! Then, Ted could attend more contest throughout the United States??? Or, invest the savings in a company of the future like,,,,,,, ugggghhhhhh. "TED"! Just in case the new startup company winds up with some aircraft from another airline... Hi Ted!

Hey Sourdough: A little off the subject, but Stunt Related anyway. I told you a while back my wife and I worked for SOP Hosptital in Anchorage for a few years. We were up Eagle River with a Native guide. Grizzly came down a draw, so fast, and literally knocked us all flat to the ground--without a scratch--and kept going. The guide was so shaken and flustered he could not get the safety off his 12 pump. Stood there swearing and completely ineffectual. I can happen that fast! Bear was just funnin us I guess. Just like learning to fly stunt. Stiff wind, and the lines go slack, and all of a sudden there is a plane heading your way fast!

Well, Nobler might live longer, but the question is if TED will live longer!

A Nobler turned into pizza is a gruesom sight, bit a Ted pizza would look a lot worse
