BEWARE OF EBAY SOLICITATIONS/FRAUD

Somehow "they" followed me from the airplane/engine/cl/rc site on eBay to my home computer, and I'm not alone! Once again, the fake eBay solicitations are finding their way into our personal email addresses. Asking specifically about info concerning my eBay account. I occasionally buy, but "do not" sell on ebay. But, this solicitation is good!?! They will even help you straighten out your eBay account with updated personal info! And, will link you right to your personal (my ebay) inside the so-called protected zone by eBay security dept. So much for that. Anyway, they ask you for all too much info including pin numbers, bank numbers, mother's maiden name, bank account numbers etc--nothing that eBay would ever ask for--or a sane person would ever give. Identity theft is the name of the game. Some folks have spent years and fortunes trying to (undo) the damage of Identity Theft.

You don't even have to visit Ebay to get this sort of spam.. NONE of the legitimate businesses ever contact people in this manner.

If you aren't actually connecting to a SECURE web page, it isn't real.

Yes, we did meet at our Las Cruces contest, and Bill Melton is the man you are referring to.. He died at the field, flying model airplanes.

What day do you guys usually fly down there? Regular weekly or monthly day or there abouts? I need a road trip real soon. I'll bring my new Nobler with the Saito .40. Have not flown it yet. Later, William, Willi, Billy, Bill, CL-Willi, Willis, all of the so far "publishable" names for me floating around Santa Fe.

Remember to forward the fake emails to the ebay fraud address. Saw an article last about how services like ebay are working with the big ISP companies to track this stuff down.

Dave is correct about eBay's working to stop the problem. PayPal users are also receiving the same kinds of messages and the same response is appropriate.

If you have the slightest doubt that a message "from" eBay or PayPal is legitimate, forward it immediately to the security folks at whichever company is appropriate. PERIOD!! Do not click on any links contained within any such message!!

Within a few hours at most, you'll have an answer about the legitimacy of that message.
