3-line set up articles

Believe it or not there is life in C/L outside Stunt (elegant as it is). I had put in a response to a request on Flitelines for a great set of articles that appeared in John Thompson's column in the late Model Builder (sob!) some 10 years ago on how to properly set up 3-line "Roberts" type systems. I sent out five sets yesterday- is anyone over here interested in copies?

Cool. Wow, this has been more popular than I thought, PA is an art form (and very pretty) but it is nice to see renewed C/L interest outside it too.

I would like to have a copy, maybe I will finally get my old carrier birds out for some practice.

No problem, I am really pleased with the response level so far. These are really excellent articles, written by Orrin Humphries. Hard to imagine it was 10 years ago- boy I miss Model Builder!
If anyone who hasn't already done so wants a set, just e-mail me your snail mail (or a fax #) and I will see you get them. I have a list of people that I have already sent out and ones pending. No rush, I will get smart this time around and make a few extras (Kinko's loves me!!!!)

I have to either snail mail or fax them- I don't have a scanner at the moment for e-mail. And no, I just use that handle as it is a pun on my initials which are JAK and I used to like that feature in MB.

(Picture big light bulb here) Idea!!! How would it be if one of the gents who has a scanner do the deed then let the rest of us know about it? May save some leg work,postage, Kinko's cost etc for Jake. Just a thought is all. P.S.,..I've got a scanner.

Me too and I would prefer a digital copy over a copy that costs people to send regardless of how generous.

That thought had occured to me too, but I had no idea whom to ask that would want to bother. One advantage is that anyone who wants one can get it instantly and not wait on the PO. Anyone wants to do this, just let me know. I had one dude e-mail me and said he'd like a copy but didn't want me to go to the trouble of mailing it.

Tony, I'll see you get a copy. It is good to have several sources for some of this info out of the old mags and such, especially in the 'net age. That way if one link goes kaflooey, there is always a backup.
BTW, will the gent that e-mailed me yesterday and wanted me to fax it to him please send me his number again, somehow like a doofus I managed to clear my inbox without saving that #!

Jake and I are working a deal to get the article into digital format. This includes a snail mail copy of the info to my home address which may take a bit of time. Once the scan work is complete I'll repost to this thread and gang mail to all who would like the e-mail version. How would that suit ya'll? That's the "master plan" anyway.

The scans of throttle system setup are complete. There are 8 files in jpg file format that run around the 300+/- kbyte size. I did not compress them much more then this so as to pass on a higher resolution image. You can play with them yourself if they are to large. I may also have a pending photo shoot in the works of some of the actual hardware, namely a Roberts handle and a couple of the Roberts bellcranks. I'll be trying to get this together later this week. All persons that would like a copy of the digital files please reply to this address, minus the extra @'s of course: here it is afbagley@@@@@@@@ebtech.net When a sizeable number of interested types have made a request I'll gang mail all at once.

edit: And one more thing please. Besure to include a mail "subject" title related to "3-line control". I dump anything that arrives without a title in the "subject" box. O.k. Thanks fella's. Don Mcpherson,..yours made it through because I double checked the contents Normally I don't do that.

Since Tony was so gracious to volunteer for this task, I still have a list of around 15 guys who wanted a set of these that I haven't mailed out yet. I apologize for that- I have had several problem areas of late, including a nasty infection on my shoulder that had me sick as a dog several days- it seems to be healing now. If you are one of the folks that hasn't gotten your's yet- e-mail Tony, if you would like the instant e-mail version.

I hope that everyone that requested the info received it. I did get one error message which would indicated that someone did not get the package or are missing one part (there were four not three mails). Please let me know if this is the case. Also, as this is now bumped back to the top of the charts,..if you'd like the info. just responded as noted above. Thanks.

I havent flown 3 line in many years! It sure was alot of fun tho. The last one I set up was a Flite Streak Trainer ( solid wing) with a McCoy 19 bluehead. You could taxi it, stop and do touch and goes land and take off again. I put a huge tank on it and could let alot of people fly it with out restarting it, Just land and let it idle, change pilots and off you'd go. I used to like lifting the tail wheel and not taking off, rather trying to go over two laps with out taking off, running on the main gear. It isnt that easy! I ended up with a J Roberts factory made plywood display unit that shows how the bellcrank and handle works. Its been sitting in moms basement for the last twenty years with a ton of other stuff. I think I still have the plane or whats left of it. With 5 Min epoxy you could fly for ever! If you can email the articles I'd love to read them.

I got mine almost immediately upon making the request. The articles are very complete. This is a very nice service for someone to provide for total strangers, and I would like to thank Tony publicly for doing it.
If it doesn't stink, it's not a diesel.

Me too. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I got way behind mailing out the hard copy versions I had promised folks and Tony stepped in and got the job done.

Thank you for the kind words gents. No real trouble on my part. Thank John for bringing the info forward. These three line set ups have always intrigued me.

One other comment: Albert Kraus oldonekraus@@@@@@@@@@@@hotmail.com I keep getting error messages related to failed mail delivery. We maybe need to send the info to your home mail account Albert. I'm not sure if the file size is over amping the Hotmail inbox size limit or something. Let me know. Make contact as before.
