Li'l Ringmaster / Baby Ringmaster

What is the difference between the Li'l Ringmaster .049 Kit and the Baby Ringmaster .049 Kit?

IIRC, one is a solid wing, and the other is a built up. Or is the Beginner's Ringmaster the solid sheet wing and these two referred to are just "name changes" by Estes?

As i recall the pre-ESTES plank wing was the Beginners Ringmaster and the built-up version was the Baby Ringmaster.

Recently saw a new release Estes built-up wing version and it was called "Lil' Stunting Rinmaster" or something very close to that.

yeah, and the little stuntin ringmaster is built different than the Baby ringmaster. Basically same plane with different construction.

Heres a rundown of the smaller Ringmasters. I have all of these kits, but not in front of me as I write this.

Sterling

S13 Baby Ringmaster-Built up wing, metal gear/engine mount

S30 Beginners RM-Solid, flat plank wing, metal gear/engine mount

S24 Eagle-A cross between the Baby and and Beginners. Solid wing, but with exposed ribs underneath, giving an airfoil shape. An ARF of its day.

S22 Beginners Bipe-Solid, Flat plank wings, Biplane

Estes

6753 PT RM-Solid, flat plank wing, plastic gear/engine mount

6754 PT RM Bipe- Solid, Flat plank wings, biplane

6752 Lil Stuntin RM 049-Built up wing, plastic gear/engine mount

There were several kit versions of the Sterlings. Subtle differences sometimes between them. Some of the later Sterlings had plastic engine mounts rather than metal.

The Eagle ARF is not normally considered a RM, but its unmistakeable.

What's the wing area on the Jr.? Will a Cox TD .049 pull it?

Certainly. The Jr. R. by Sterling had a 30" span, much larger than these 1/2 A jobs (the Baby and the Beginner by Sterling both had 21" spans. I understand that the equivalent Jr by Estes (can't recall the exact name) has a slightly larger span, something like 33". I also recall some chatter here or elsewhere about the Estes box art statement re the span did not match what was actually in the kit, but don't remember the specifics. This was early in the game, when Estes was intro'ing their R. kits.

Perhaps someone can clear this up.

The Ringmaster Jr was redesigned to include a sheeted LE wing. The wing is built in halves and then joined. Some of us opt to build both halves and include the section between the two halves as part of the wing to increase the span (making a wider center section). That is why two different spans are reported. Some may have built-in the center part because they did not read the instructions and weren't aware of the separation.
Mine has the center purposely included and is powered by a Enya .09.

Dear Giffy, The Ringmaster Jr wing area is approx: 195sq".
A Cox T.D. .049 will pull it just fine. I have one with an AM 10
for power(.061cu' Diesel from 1956). this engine is equivilent to a
Cox reed valve .049. It flys beautifuly with the AM 10. I also
have one powered with a Paw .049 Sbr. this is an awesome combo,but
the model has been put on a diet so its not a stock Ring. Jr.

Maybe you need to get with Uncle Mikey Pratt, rumor has it that he is back with Estes. The pictures do bring back memories of them.
