For those of us who prefer an alternative to dope, here is a new product that has only been on the market for a short time. It may be less expensive and less hazardous than some of the automotive paints.

I understand that Hobbypoxy and K&B Superpoxy are no longer available.

I called in an order to Klass Kote for paint for my Rat Racers as they lead a tough existence and need tough paint. Also my U.S. Navy Carrier planes need epoxy paint to withstand the high percentage nitro used. So the stuff is ordered and on its way. They were very cordial and went so far as to suggest trying their catalyst in my leftover K&B and HobbyPoxy (not ultra poxy!)paint as some good results have been reported. I'll do a test before attempting it on a plane. One minor thing- their primer requires a different catalyst than does their paint. I can live with that. They were reviewed favorably in RC Modeler magazine but I'm not familiar with that.Best regards,

Sounds to me like they have just got supply from who ever supplied K&B Superpoxy, if I remember that needed different catalyst for the primer, now that K&B primer was good material.

Bill Rutherford told me once that the paint supplier to K&B was a company called DEFT, a few months ago I decided to check this out. DEFT are a paint company in California, but seem to be more into furniture paints, the mystery go's on.

Odd that DAFT came up. I just cleaned out my garage and found a pint of DAFT clear furniture paint. I guess my wife bought it somewhere. It says it fills quickly and the directions caution about brushing over where you previously brushed- like dope. I'll paint something with it someday and see what it does.Back to the K&B,- I think they ran into EPA problems. Klass Kote told me they have different formulation that is compliant, been producing product for 30 years and will continue to do so. I'm optimistic. Best regards,

This is at least the third thread about Klass Kote Epoxy paint. You might try searching for the older threads over the last year. Steve

PS: Our website is down, probably power or telephone service to the server due to this afternoon's storm here. Apparently that makes my Avatar not work?

How do you search previous threads if you don't know the name or even the existance of a product? I posted the thread on hearing loss for the umpty-umpth time because I found a number of new people flying who weren't aware of the problem. And finally, my searches for previous material havn't been too productive.

the default search condition is to .OR. the keywords together. So you get way more responses than you think you should. I always have better luck changing the search criteria to .AND. the keywords.

Thanks. I tried it that way and it worked. Got six responses- two of which led me to the link I needed for Klass Kote.

A couple of weeks ago, I got my first order of Klass Kote in. Am anxious to try it, but will have to wait till my work load goes down a bit. I bought some red, white & blue, gloss catalyst & extra thinner. Don't want to get caught short on thinner and turn my spray gun into a paper wheight! The gent I spoke with on the phone said they would have another color by the end of the month, bright orange, since it was on my original list. I'll post results when I'm done.
