Another pioneer is gone

In the course of research and responce to my book I received an email that another modeling giant has passed on. It is Fred Dunn, designer of the Astro Hog. In 1957-59 this plane dominated the Nationals in RC Multi. I know it isn't a stunt plane but I believe this plane single handedly brought in the multi craze that took many CL pilots onto new adventures and it han't been the same since. He was a member of the LARKS in Los Angles. His plane is a classic, many of us have flown FF and RC and can respect his acomplishments. Using this design Howard Bonner, Bob Dunham, and several other LARKs members gained national attention, Bob and Howard are in the AMA Hall of Fame. If you know some one that should be in the Hall of Fame and isn't, you post it here so I can make a record. Many of us have had mentors that deserve this recognition. I believe Fred to be one of these men. It does take more that wanting. Here is the email I received.....I just wanted to let you know that Fred Dunn passed away on Easter Sunday. I will miss him so much. Thank you for your support. I plan to continue selling balsa wood on eBay. His funeral will be at the Riverside National Cemetery in California on Monday, April 26,2004 at 1:00 PM. He will have services with full military honors. I inherited a Saito .65 powered Astro Hog years ago when my father died, didn't fly it until last year. Not that inspiring to look at, you know? I've managed to land RC's that I had no business flying, and I've flown stuff that got pushed around and were no challenge. But the Hog treads the line perfectly for most pilots, I think.
