Did anyone sell a kit for this airplane? The F-82 Twin Mustange.

Not that I know of (on the kit) other than the old Scientific one and it is long out of print. There have been several model versions. There are at least two Profile Stunters; one by Terry Aldrich in the late '60s and the other one by Bare, he has the plans on his website for the latter.

I am a retread, - I did C/L in my youth and did not know what I was doing then other then having fun. And not much has changed.

I had forgotten that one-stand way off scale.

I have scratch built the Scientific version. I am staring at it right now, by the way, as it rests about a foot above the TV. Mine is in nightfighter, gloss black.

I saw one fly at the Musciano Meet last year, a silver one. Neat! Get that IB motor going better than the OB one, though.

Way back when, someone would kit bash Sterling P-51 profile kits, and make up an ersatz F-82. Two 19s, usually.

I think that a version was printed in Model Airplane News and consisted of two fuselages from the Midwest kit with modified shapes due to the taller fuselage profile of the P-82. A straight wing section was added between the fuselages using the center rib of the Midwest kit. Unless someone has a set of personal plans, Model Airplane News will not sell the plans.

Within the past 18 years, I have made 3 of these using 2 of the Veco Mustang kits with an 11" midwing section between the two fuselage's. The center flap was tied to the wing flaps so you did have 3 workable flaps. The horizontal stab. was made from 3/16" sheet. The plane flew better than I expected! On the third model I extended the fuselage's 2 1/4 inches and found the plane to fly much more stable. I used two O.S. Max 30 R/C's. This was plenty of power. Doing alot of carrier flying, I had no problem rigging throttles with bellcranks. Two elevator horns were used at the end of each fuselage with two seperate bellcranks tied together in the mid wing section of each fuselage. Each fuselage had a 3 1/2 oz. tank installed as the kit plan prescribed. The #2 plane did not have throttle controls and I used two O.S. Max 35-S's. FAST! The #3 model is still flying somewhere in the S.F. bay area. I crashed the #2 plane after several dozens of flights. The buyer of the #1 model flew the plane several times and thought it would look good over his BAR! He has passed on now and I don't know what became of the model.
