Diesel engine question!

Watching experienced team race/combat mechanics I've noticed they often shake the model up and down violently which seems to have the effect of bringing the motor 'on song' - what are they doing?

Leans out the engine, momentarily, by introducing bubbles
into the fuel line (I think)

I believe the above response is correct. I know that I've done that to my diesels to bring them up quickly
