Nobler question

I have a Top Flight Nobler kit, green box, that was given to me over 25 years ago. Question is should built it or does it have value in kit form? The reason it was never built is that I got away from CL Stunt and have just recently started flying again. I have a Nobler from the same era that my dad built and I am restoring to fly.

These kits have appeal to collectors. if they are in good shape they can fetch over $100.....you are probably better off keeping it as they are geting harder and harder to find. If you want another Nobler....get the ARF one. Same plane......less work.

Aerodynamically, I think the Arf Nobler is a clone of the Green Box Nobler. The main exception (other than the Fiberglass cowl and non-airfoiled Fin) is that the Arf probably is lighter and comes in any color you want, as long as it is Saphire Blue!

I have a Top Flite Green box Nobler kit also. Dad and I (mostly dad) built two when I was a kid plus a Jr. Nobler and later as a young adult I built a Top Flite G-Nobler. My experience has been that the old green box kits are tough to build, the wood is brittle and the kit is really in my opinion much to valuable to build. I would suggest a Top Flite ARF Nobler, an RSM Nobler kit or a Brodak Original Nobler kit as another possible option. I have one of the ARF Noblers and it is really nice if you want to get to the field with very little shop time. I also have a Brodak Nobler kit, not yet built, and the kit is much nicer than my old green box kit. Just my opinion but I would not built that kit.

I agree with the above. I still have one original GB Nobler that I bought at the '66 Glenview Nats. I thought about building it many times, but am glad I held off. Even though mine has stayed in great shape, the wood is still not as good as we can get today.

I used the plans and parts as templates when I rebuilt my ARF Nobler last month. The ARF is very close to original and should fly just as well.

If you have to build a kit, I would recommend the RSM Green Box Nobler kit or Tom Dixon's foam wing version. Both have much better wood and better hardware packages. They will also go together easier.

I came back to CLPA last year after a 37-year layoff and am glad I did. Welcome back.

Before Brodak came out with its own Nobler, Green Box TF Noblers would bring $125 on ebay, and sometimes more. Now, the range is somewhere around $75 to $100, although a few will break out of either boundary. A lot of people still seek out this model to build and not collect, so the Brodak version pretty much sets the upper limit.

There still are plenty around, so I would go ahead and build it.
