I think they were wary of the rain or the fire ants on saturday morning.

One of our clubmembers got some great shots of the Hughes racer in action. Maybe he'll post them here.

What a fun contest. It was great to meet so many new people and watch and learn from some of the best. I can't what till the next Dallas contest now. The new plane is going already.

Hi again Zuriel. Glad to have been able to meet you in person. Thanks for not mentioning my strange but true Italian bull fighting experience with my profile Cavalier. Too bad Windy was off in the mens room when it happened. It would have been a very funny video. I say than now that I'm home and looking at the mess my plane is in. Never in my entire life of cl, since 1951, has this ever happened to me. Now that it's out of the way, nothing but perfection.
As to Mr. Gunn, how one man can do so much is beyond me. We all owe him a public thanks for his efforts in getting this contest going and run in spite of the rain. As we said in the Navy, BZ. (Bravo Zulu) is the signal for "Well Done" and the highest accolades ever in the fleet. Bar none.

Nice photos Craig. Too bad everyone couldn't see the Hughes H1 the Mr Moon flew. It is impressive just sitting there and very much so in flight. A classic look that just can't be beat, matched, but not beat. Round engines!! Well maybe two wings and an open cockpit.
I wonder how it would look in chrome monocoat?? Wow.

Man you are a piece of work! Wish I was 20 years younger! Maybe I could post stuff as fast as you. Thanks for the pictures!

No way to express adequetly(sp) my appreciation for John Gunn and the effort he puts forth to hold this contest. This was my first time but I hope to make sure it wasn't my last.

For those of you who read the score boards, you will note a big difference between Sat and Sun scores. Weather was the issue! Friday was wonderfull! Great practice day for those who came early. Sat was rain, cold, wind and there was some discussion as to wheather to try it at all. But at 1:30 the decision was made to attempt to put in the first round. We got through it but it wasn't pretty! (trust me).

Sunday was, for the most part, Stunt Heaven. We did have a few times when the winds were really bad. Not strong, just blew all around the circle so some pilots got real "interesting" air. As an example, Lew Woolard had the wind move a full 360 degrees from the time he took off until he completed the pattern. What I mean by this is it seemed that everytime he was ready to start something the wind changed 20 degrees or so. Through out the flight the wind just kept moving. I've never seen it do this (360 thing) in my life. The "Silver Foxx" handled it well and placed 2nd. There were others that had trouble hunting the wind. I even saw one pilot who did the triangles straight upwind. Out of the 25 or so flights put up Sunday, there were probably six or seven pilots who got "bad" air (really). But for the most part the winds were steady and light. Sort of got off track here. I tend to do that sometimes.

Thanks to all who attended but most to John Gunn for his effort. It was a real good time.

Glad you went "off track", this contest is one of my favorites but I wasn't able to make it. John does a great job and I was glad to hear a few of the details.

John, at times you guys had a real challenge trying to decide which side of the circle to stand on to judge. First time I ever saw the judges end up on opposite sides of the circle trying to keep up (but not for long). Hope to see everyone at Houston.

Made the trip from College Station to Texarkana, ( I think it was a 2 1/2 day drive, or seemed like it , but well worth it). John Gunn did a fantastic job. Let us not forget others: the judges, the LADIES doing the tabulating, etc. etc. etc., the " runners ", and others that helped John, ( no names cause I forget sometimes ). I am sure this is the norm for all across the country, so be sure and thank those that help with the contest,working, while you are out and about visiting, talking planes, engines, etc., waiting your turn to fly.
Also, lets try a little harder in our attempt to get more kids involved in control line flying. Jake Moon might be the next Bob Gieseke, but we need more like him. Rambled enough, thanks to all that have helped this 50 year old beginner just entering Intermediate this season. Dale McCord
