Question for Spark Ignition Modelers

A friend just gave me a new spark ignition Wasp twin. Anyone out there have any experience with them?
For example, what is the dispacement?
As I've had excellent results with single cylinder ignition engines, I guess it's time to tempt fate with a twin!
It might be neat in a Boxcar Chief.
Any ideas??????????????

That's a high ticket MECA collectible. These bring several hundred $s in the market. ALL the old sparkie twins are worth a king's ransom now, I'd advise looking at the collector value first before running it- but it is of course your motor. I have a Culver Cadet plan from the late 40s that Paul Plecan did that shows a Wasp twin.
I can't recall the displacement at the moment. IF it is indeed new, it will probably come near to eating a $1000 bill to the right collector. OK Twins bring $700-$800 in nice condition and the Wasp is more rare.

The Wasp twins were manufactured from 1946 to 1948 by the Micro - Model Company. They had a displacement of .604 to .645 cu. in. The 1946 models had offset opposed cylinders. Directly opposed cylinders were introduced in 1947. In 1948, a few glow versions were produced.
The company ceased production in 1948.

If you run it in a controline model, the inside cylinder will run lean. (Or the outside runs rich) That's what the oldtimers tell me.

What color is it?

If it was me ,I'd make a mount, put it behind glass and stare.
It's worth "if I follow engine collecting correctly" 500-750 dollars,
probably a bit more.

You ain't a-woofin'- I told ya'll it was an expensive puppy. A new one less the box and papers will probably hit very near the $1000 mark in the collector market.

Some guys have all the luck, best engine I ever had given to me was a McCoy .29RR bump lug. But then, Bob needs more engines, right Bob!?

Do you have a twin coil to run it on? I have run my Viking twin on two coils with two transistors. Works pretty well if you use 10 amp audio transistors.

Thanks for all the interesting replies - you guys know your engines. As many of you may know, I like to run my engines - remember, I fly OTS with an OK Super 60, an Atwood Triumph .49 and an Anderson Spitfire.
The Wasp will fly - in the Boxcar or something of the "era".
I do not have the proper twin coil as yet - any ideas on a source?
I'm also trying to locate some designs - maybe you can help me.OTS legal planes in the .35 to .46 range. For a Vivell, a Madewell and a Wenson.

A 6 bolt c'case version is worth about $325 - $350. A 10 bolt c'case version is worth about $350 - $375. The 1948 Super Wasp Twin is worth about $850 - $900. ( they only built about 10 of them)

Looks like a cool motor! I hope Bob does put it in the air, I'd like to hear it run in flight. A Boxcar Chief with a modified cowel to fit the cylinders might be pretty neat.

Mine is the el-cheapo: six bolts.
