I'm taking the chance that my memory is correct. We, in another thread, have been dicussing UV blockers. I seem to remember you telling me that you got the stuff George Aldrich was selling. Some folks are interested and we wanna' know where we can get more!!

Hi Randy , slight correction, George got the stuff from me and it is not really a "magic bullet"you must still keep your plane covered or out of the bright sun, it just forestalls the eventual fading we get with Dope. Color fading, not brain fade, sorry, I couldn't help myself. The stuff is "Tinuvin", a U.V. blocker made by the Ciba-Giegy Co.and has many formulations for different piant types.The one recomended for Lacquer/Dope is Tinuvin 327. I've been giving it away to all the local guys who ask for it. I'll send you some.Remember, it's not magic. What IS magic is using Urethane Auto clear over your dope as is the latest rage. It allready has the Blocker in it. Just look at the cars now. Most take ten years or so to fade. I'm painting my latest with Valspar color auto basecoat and PPG Stratoclear. Call me at work 8:00-4:30.

I already have some and have used it. I'm aware of its limitations. The thing is some guys on the other thread are interested in getting some so if you want to do so you could probably make arrangements with them fo purchase or whatever.

One of the problems with auto clear coat with crosslinker is that a lot of us do not have the facilities to handle the stuff. While dope is odorous it hasn't killled anyone that I know of and the newer stuff without a decent facility and P.P.E. is a deadly combination.
Another thread Jake made mention of the harmful properties of Aniline dye and he is quite correct. However if you use M.E.K. or Toluine or any of the other chemicale that we use and love so dearly then you are at risk of cancer, or blindnes from the M.E.K. Obviously what I'm saying is that you should never be cavalier with the stuff we use, read the directions and use common sense.
