KL Fish Platter

I built a half dozen of these for an event held last weekend. It differs from the original Osborne Platter in the following ways:

Diameter: 16 inches
Material: 3mm "Coroplast" (don't know what brand it is, actually)
Engine: Norvel BigMig .061

Flies very nicely on 42 foot .012 lines. 35 foot works too, but forget training students with 35 foot lines. It will do loops and 8s and inverted flight, but is stable enough for training beginners. I need to work on a better engine mount arrangement - as built, they'll only take a moderate pounding into the ground.

Though our present crop of Manwin trainers use aluminum for doublers, I wonder if the original idea I had about using Coro doublers and PVC downspout corners for mounting wedges were not a better idea. The Coroplatter that I made had many smacks into the hard ground for no worse the wear. The flexibility of the whole thing kept it from breaking. Then again, the most rigid part at that point is the Norvel tank and that is the first thing that broke on my first Norvel Manwin.

Sooner or later SOMETHING'S gotta give. Lotta fun though.

I wanted to try the downspout, problem is I can't get PVC downspout here. One possible substitute would be PVC wire conduits - they're like downspouts, but one side snaps on.

What do you use to cut downspout? I might try my bandsaw.
