Swedish "Mustunt" by Erik Bjornwall's

Does anyone has a set of plans to this P-51B ? It is from the now defunct Aeromodler and can't find a web site the sells the old plans. So if you have a set of plans would you be willing to make me a copy or at the very least let me barrow them and have copies made? I think it is legal for Classic and it looks like it is has about the right moments (kind of Noblerish in my opinnion).

Thanks,
Mikey

Mike,

The elmores have the plan and article ready for a free download from there web page. I either have the wrong URL in my favorites or it is not working at present. If you can't get through or find the URL, let me know and I'll send it to you as an attachment to an email. Their download is from the mag you refer to.

Thanks for the offer Wynn but I'd rather support XLIST and/or Phil Hansson - they offer a valuable service.

Tony,
I would be glad to support the X-List but as far as I can tell they do not offer the plan #CL 878. If they do I would order the plan ASAP.

Thanks for your help,

Mikey

Hello everybody,

Like Lars said I´m still alive and well! Still flying stunt too; went out and made the first flight for the season this very morning.

The "Mustunt" is also still alive even if it was rebuilt into a P 51 D around 1965. It´s not flying anymore but makes a good conversation piece! Picture below is taken today so it shows the model´s present status. I´ve been looking through my "archives" and found my script to the building instructions in the "Aeromodeller" as well as all letters going to and from Ron Moulton. But sorry; no plans anywhere ! Must have lost them when moving some time long ago. However I know that Henk de Jong of the Netherlands as well as a couple of other stunt fliers from central European countries built and flew the Mustunt from the Aeromodeller plans long ago. If any of them reads this perhaps...

And Mike; yes it looks Noblerish, and it is! Like so many ships from that time it´s actually just a Nobler in disguise! Thanks George!

Regards,
Erik Björnwall

Hi Erik,
It's great to see you here!
Any particular reason for the rebuild to a "D" model?
It still looks very nice.

Hi Erik,
Thanks for responding and I am always glad to meet another fellow stunt flyer. I have long thought that your P-51B would make an excellent model for Classic Stunt. Like the old saying goes "everyone loves a P-51". But now knowing that you turned it into a "D" model a few years later really peeks my interest. Would it be possible for you to take a few more pictures of the "D" and so I can duplicate the paint scheme as close as possible?

I have known Hank De Jong for many years. We first met at the World Champs in Massachusetts and hopefully he or someone else will have the plans.

Thanks,

Mikey

Pictures on demand!

To Mike:
If everything works OK there are three more pictures of the "D" Mustunt below. As you can see there are a lot of signatures on the ship, collected during the ´68 world champs in Helsinki where I had this model as my backup ship. Among others you will find the signatures of Bob Gieseke, Jim Silhavy and Juhani Kari on the wing. Do you want to duplicate these too? And, if and when you eventually build a Mustunt, please send me a photo!

To Bill:
The reason for the rebuild? The original "B" model was way too heavy for it´s poor little Fox 35 so I scrapped everything but the wing, landing gear and balsa pilot. Then it became a "D" just because I wanted to build something a little different (at least I think that was the reason; it´s almost 40 years ago so I´m not so sure any more!).

Best regards,
Erik

Erik,
Thanks for posting the additional pictures of the "Mustunt". What a treasure you have there with all the signatures and the memories that are associated with it. No LOL, I would not attempt to put all the signatures on it but just wanted to paint it like your original. To my way of thinking (a little weird maybe) when duplicating a Classic Stunt model it is fun to research the model and choose a scheme that would highlight the model and make it instantly recognizable to all that see it.

A good example is the Chezler that I am building now. It has two very different schemes and I am still not sure which one to use but I am leaning towards the red tissue version. It won't receive as many appearance points but the model should be very light when finished.

Thanks again,

Mikey

Hello "uncle" Mike,

Many thanks for those kind words! It´s been a few years since we saw each other at the ´96 world champs and Mia and me had seen forward to go to the states this summer to watch this year´s competition and to meet you again. However, my son (whom I think you met briefly in Norrköping?) is getting married at that time so we´d better stay at home!

Some other year perhaps?

Best regards
Erik

Steve Foster had a nice one - Pale Blue on top and Yellow under I think- with an Olive green anti glare panel!

That Camo finish IS NOT CORRECT......
Unless the pilot flew inverted over desert.... in which case he would not need the anti-glare panel........
LOL... only joking...
I have built a few Mustangs ( SIG and clones.. ) myself I prefer Silver/Aluminium with Invasion stripes and black anti-glare panel.
No doubt this is not correct either.....

I tell myself I don't collect engines any more, only engines I will use!! But the same doesn't apply to plans. This looks SO good. Eric or anybody, are plans available for this particular model in 1965 P51D format?

I´m sorry Ian,

I have absolutely no plans left of either the B or D model. Evidently there are copies of Aeromodellers B plans on sale from a couple of sources (I´ve never seen them myself; sent copies of my pencil drawings to the magazine but never saw the finished plans in full scale, just in the magazine) but for the D I only made a simple sketch of the fuselage (lost since long ago) as the wing was reused from the B ship.

Just take a nobler plan and redraw it to look like a P 51 D, that should make it

Best regards,

Erik

Hi Eric. If details of YOUR model can be made available, it would be Classic Legal. This would not apply if I drew my own.

Mikey, I would say you have struck gold with this one (P51D) if you can get it authenticated. It's so much better looking than the published version, in my opinion.

How about it Eric? Can you give details? Maybe something can be sorted when I have a bit more time.

To those interested:

Considering the fact that the wing of the "Mustunt II" (the P 51 D)is identical to that of the published P 51 B and that the tailplane is identical in outline if not in construction,it would be quite easy for me to draw a simple full size side view of the fuselage with some notes on measurements and on the differences beetween the versions. If I then sign the plan and the notes, adding my verification that the rebuild to "D" version took place in 1964-65 I guess that would be enough to make the plans classic legal? (Of course you will need the Aeromodeller plans too to build the ship).

When I´m finished I´ll come back here to ask for addresses to those interested in building the ship. Considering mail costs I would prefer to arrange it so that I can send just one or two copies to the US where I hope someone of you can distribute them amongst you. Of course, if it´s only Mike and Ian wanting it there´s no problem!

Just give me some time!

Yours,
Erik

Yeah, I want a set op the "B" version too! I am probably one of the few PAMPA members who actually served with an outfit that was still flying the Mustang in 1955.

At one time, PAMPA had a group of volunteer draftsmen on standby, waiting for projects such as this. Getting the original model or basic drawings into their hands was all that was required, then it would be redrawn, published in PAMPA, and the model would be preserved and plans available through member's services (CaptCurt). Both versions are great looking models. Steve
