CAD programs...

I was online and found a CAD program (starcad)that allows you to draw construction plans for your model. Unfortunately the site is not working now(hopefully just down for today). Does anyone out there own such a program that they can recommend?

IntelliCAD from CADopia, www.cadopia.com is worth a look. Depending on your CAD skills, IntelliCAD may suit your needs.

The other common freebie CAD program, the one I use, is Turbocad 2D available from www.turbocad.com.

I'm interested that you found a program called Starcad, what was the URL ? The only Starcad I know was a site full of free plans in CAD format, mainly RC but there were a few C/L models. I say was because the owner has given up on it so it no longer exists.

Maybe it wasn't Starcad. I was trying to remember where I'd seen this CAD program that was specifically designed for modellers. In looking through my "history" I noticed I'd visited Starcad.I assumed this was the program I was thinking of.

If it is defunct, that means this other program is still out there. I'll just have to keep surfing and hope I come across it again. If I do, I'll let you know.

A question and possible warning for others.

I fiddled with T/CAD 2D for a while as did a mate. While I did not get very far, he drew several rather good plans and saved them in T/CAD's default format--as you would.

When we both upgraded to T/CAD Pro Ver 5 (free on the cover disk of an Aussie computer magazine), it would not read his T/CAD 2D drawings so he had to reinstall the old program and save all the drawings in DXF format.

Do you know if this compatability 'problem' still exists?. It is not a big issue but to share drawings from T/CAD 2D, you must save in DXF format anyway

I've moved on to AutoCAD 2000 so I've no way of checking without installing both programs. The good thing about IntelliCAD is that its command structure is very similar to AutoCAD 2000 and it has an excellent User Manual. With the User Manual and a book like AutoCAD for Dummies or similar, you would be up and running quickly.

There is a program called Model Cad. This cad version is produced by ViaGrafix. This program is windows based and is very easy to use.There are hundreds of airfoils to choose from in the sybols
library.
If I am not mistaken Intuit has purchased ViaGrafix so this product should be easy to find. The one thing I like about this program. I loaded it into my Designcad 2000 3-D, and get 3D pictures of all my wings.
