canopy paint

I am going to paint the inside of a canopy for my new oriental. I,m going to use Krylon. It says it's OK for plastics, so I hope their will be no problem. I was wondering if anyone has any cool suggestions for this attempt. This will be my real first build up. My idea was to lightly mist the inner edges, and possibly the center first with the shade of paint I will be using on the fuse. Then spray over that and the rest of the inner caqnopy with Krylon Satin Ivory. Has anyone ever done this like that? What tricks have you done? The next build up will be clear with a cockpit.

On my Legacy I used 1/8" trim tape to mask off the inside of the canopy to simulate canopy supports. Painted the inside black, removed the tape and painted it red to match the fuselage. Not quite as fancy as you are planning but I liked it. Here is a picture but the reflections kinda hide the details.

I sprayed a canopy on the inside with Rustolium aluminum. Guess what--aluminum Rustolium is grey on the backside. You might want to try your spray on a piece of clear plastic to see what the "backside' looks like.

You might try the water based acrylics like the IPMS guys use.Tamiya makes a good brand and there are others. They are a lot easier to get off without ruining the canopy in case you goof (guess how I know this).

My suggestion is to use any paint sold for RC car bodies. It's formulated to stick to plastic, dries quickly, is available in a great many colors and stocked by a great many hobby shops.

The Krylon worked well. The other paint also. Misted Tamya sky blue first, Did a little masking inside after the misting of the blue, then applyed the Satin Ivory. The job did not turn out right. I should of not masked any over the blue. I was wondering if I soak the canopy in Lacure thinner, (spelling) would it eat up and distroy the conopy. Does Brodak sell extra canopys?

I will give my thoughts on how I think I should finish my canopy but I need to have your tips on what will work. Or could you please correct me and give me a better way that will have a possitive outcome. Thanks!

1st. I measured around the top block where the canopy goes and used a sharp blade to be able to glue it into place.
(What glue works best?)

2nd. paint the inside of the canopy,(see above)

3rd. Tape the outside of the canopy just above the clued line.
(Will masking tape be OK, or should I start out with fine line tape? And how far up should I tape? 1/8th to 1/4 inch??)

4th. Fill the space from the tape to the fuse with filler. Smooth and sand.
(I have Hobbylite filler, will that work? And for sanding should I sand till I'm even with the tape, then I guess I would brush clear dope, then a light sanding and then Prime and paint. Would I take the tape off after the final coat of clear? How would you keep the line smooth after taking the tape off?

There have been several great threads on installing canopies posted here over the last couple of years but the older ones seem to have gone away. I did find this excelent thread by John Miller on attaching canopies.

I pretty much do just as outlined except I use AeroPoxy for the fillets.
