I purchased a set of "Big Otto" plans from Currell. Still have not built it.
If anybody would know something about the B.O. it would be Currell.

One time many years ago I was on a business trip to Calif. I had managed to get Dale Kerns phone number and gave him a call. He invited me over and we had a nice discussion that ended up with my buying 6 sets of Tee Dee piston liners for 1/2A combat. He asked what % nitro I would be using and matched the fit for that amount. I also got some very interesting hop up hints. The reason for all of this is he showed me a C*x Spook and commented that the Big Otto was a close copy of his design the Spook. He had never been able to get ahold of a Big Otto kit and sure wished he knew where he could find one. As it so happens I knew where one was in an old hobby shop in Fort Worth. I bought it and sent it to him. I was able to acquire another kit years later and just haven't gotten around to building it. A Spook was on e-bay a few weeks ago but it went for over $60 and was to rich for my blood!

I used to like painting with dope but now I can't remember why. Steve Fauble

"If anybody would know something about the B.O. it would be Currell."

Gotta watch that shorthand on the net!

My friend had a Big Otto. It flew pretty well kind of a cross between a little saten and a flite streak.

The Big Otto makes a nice Nostalgia 1/2A combat plane. You get 178 squares and 24" span. A double ported Cox will handle it OK. I think I saw one at a Musciano Meet, flown either for kicks or in the Musciano Unlimited portion. Stick a Norvel .065 on it for more fun.

This one is a bit unusual, since Walt usually didn't design combat ships of any size.

I have plans.

I flew one several times. Did fly pretty well for a reed valve Half A combat. The front end was more fragile than I like, but that is typical of the planes of that time.

My friends, my 3 sons' and myself flew the Big Otto a lot in the mid 70's. We even took advantage of an offer in the kits to buy replacement ribs etc and ended up building and flying at least a dozen of this fine flyer. We used BW's most of the time and flew on 35' of dacron line. I still have an original BO still in it's wrapper. I will never part with it. We built the motor mount to be held in place with rubber bands and thus saved many a near fatal crash from happening.

I had a big otto, or was it a kingpin, cant realy remember for sure, as a kid and botched up the motor mount, so i never had a chance to fly it. I never had a good mentor at the time, and had to rely on the local teenagers to try and copy. It was fun hi-jacking thier conversations and learning a little about this hobby. Paul
