Model Aviation magazine 1955

Does anyone have Model Aviation magazines dating March, April, May, June of 1955. The last of my three AMA speed record models was in one of those issues. My home burned in 1962 and lost all trophies and momentos. Would like to get a copy of my Class B Senior record model in one of those issues. That particular Senior Class B record was established at the first King Orange Internationals in Miami in 1954.

Guys, The thought just occurred to me that the magazine was possibly Air Trails. I don't know if Model Aviation was even in existance in 1955. Any help would be appreciated.

They are all in the museum at AMA Headquarters in Muncie. They could probably run you off a copy or you could have someone that is going to the Nats make a copy for you.

I have those issues of Air Trails, by then called "Air Trails Hobbies For Young Men". Whast is the name of the plane and what is your name. I'm looking in those issues now.

Ty, Thanks much for your help. The model didn't have a name. Back then when a record was set AMA required that one send a plan and specs for the model to them. The plan and specs were published in whatever magazine AMA published in at that time. I'm really not sure it was Air Trails, but whichever one the plan was in, it was within a few months after December 1954. It was Class B Senior Record by Charles V. "Sonny" Williams. Speed was 134 mph. I am now a happy stunt flyer. Thanks so much for your help.

Model Aviation goes back to the thirties. I have a few from the late 50's early 60's. They were about 5 1/2 by 8 inches. Real small. Then they went to a full size magazine size in the 60's. I think you may have to contact AMA for your information. I have nothing about speed records in any of the issues I've checked, but will continue my search. I understand you will be at Huntersville? Ty

I think this was well before AMA was publishing MA.Air Trails was not an AMA mag,nor was Air Trails Hobbies for Young Men.If I remember correctly,during that period,AMA published a monthly "Competition News",which carried all the contest results and records,along with occasional articles.That's probably the place to look in the AMA archives.At some point American Modeler began publishing the AMA Competition News as an insert.

I am pretty sure that the publication that "Sunshine" is looking for is the official publication of the AMA from the mid-30's to the mid 60's called Model Aviation. It is not often found in in listings of magazines for sale. The AMA musuem can research and make copies of material for a fee. The best thing is to go to the museum and make copies for yourself. Or have somebody you know that will do it for you.

I looked in those issues of Air Trails and the only mention of speed was in the April, 1955 issue. On page 90 and 92 was coverage of the first KOI and all they mention about "B" speed was that Dale Kirn won open. Nothing about Jr. or Sr., and no pics. ... Sorry, perhaps in MAN or Flying Models (I don't have those).
