Flite Streak JR. weight

Can anyone tell me what a Brodak jr. flite streak ready to fly (engine, tank, everything but fuel) should weigh? I have just completed one and it weighs right at 17 OZ. This is with an OS LA 15 and stock muffler. It needed about 1 OZ tail weight to make it only slightly nose heavy, it balances perfectly at 1.5 OZ tail weight. This seems a little heavy to me and I wonder if it will fly alright at this weight? Thanks for the help, Dave Markley

There are "diseconomies", I suppose you'd call them, in sizing down, and your 17 Oz is not that bad. I had one of those (well, I built it for one of my kids) from the TF kit with a Fox 15X on it that weighed about the same, closer to 18 than to 17, though. With great care, it should be possible to build one at about 14 Oz and be glad to get it that light. In the sub- one pound area, weight savings amount to mere grams . .

My Jr flitestreak with TD 09 was over 16 oz. At the time I didn't have a scale which would weigh more than 16 oz. I think you will be fine. Mine balanced 3/8 of an inch forward of the CG shown on the Brodak plan and flew to suit me. I'd suggest flying yours nose heavy and then adding tail weight if you like.
