muffler/pipe 0.15cui

Hi

I want to get a 2nd taipan 15 BB engine. There are some available but none with mufflers. Appart from noise polution laws, a muffler is essential with these motors for pressure feed. The original muffler is a 1/4 wave tuned muffler/pipe so the engine needs it to reach it's designed performance. I want to sort out the logistics of before comitting to buy another motor.

What are my options?

Are ther suitable pipes available, is it possable to build my own,
do I have to design one or are there existing designs I can use.

I found a java application for desigining pipes, mmm don't know what I have to do to get that to work. Also found someone building pipes and mufflers in graphite.

Any opinions on the best way to go?

Ken,

Are you saying the stock muffler for a Taipan 15BB isn't just a muffler? Gee, who woulda thunk something like that...

The easiest approach by far is to buy the correct muffler. Even if a suitable design were to come from your program, transferring the specs to metal might lead you into a different hobby. And you've already got at least one.

What about buying a used O.S. 15FP? I have never owned one, but from what I have seen lately with its big brother, the 20FP, I intend to buy the next one I come across.

Ken, I'm not so sure it's a tuned pipe/muffler because it's a fixed length. I've got a NIB R/C version that came without muffler although my CL Taipan has the original muffler. My suggestion would be to make a simple adaptor and get one of the Bolly CF super mufflers. They're supposed to be an after muffler but they work just as well by themselves (or at least it does on my ST G51).
