Some time back, I used to recieve fairly regularly pieces of sanding material. It was foam rubber with the grit attached directly to the face of the rubber. My supply is getting short and I was wondering if anyone here knows where I can get some more. I used to get it as a member of the Craftsman club

Up here in Canada, I buy a product made by SIA in Switzerland that is just what you're after. Goes by the name SIASOFT. Available in grits to 600. Do a Google search and see if they have a US distributor.

Check the body shop suppliers around New Bern. 3M makes foam pads in at least 3 different grits and can be wet sanded.
Oh, yeah.... I found some 1/4-28 threaded rod 36" long. Need some? A couple bucks for the whole thing at my local mom and pop hardware. But they were out of the union nuts. You can get those from Randy Smith.

I had several pieces of hard aluminum rod threaded by a shop so I have enough. He was a friend and done for free or I would have done enough to put up for sale. I got the union nuts from Randy but they were a different thread on one end (smaller) so I bought a tap and ran it through. I don't do metal very well but I got it done.

I had checked with the local NAPA store as they carry 3M stuff but the sales clerk knew nothing about the rubber backed sanding stuff. I have a little in coarse, medium, fine and very fine. The three finest work well for me. I find they are very handy for sanding fillet areas. I just fold them and the foam forms a nice radius which almost fits the fillet area Use one of those office clamps that they make for holding paper ( it has sort of a round spring with two flats of metal for the paper and two arms to open the spring ) Set it close as you need to the fold in the foam and sand away.
